To be honest, the descriptions should have enough info to do the mod. Sure the pictures would be helpful but I read through them and there's enough to do it right if you're careful.

The circuit board on dj mixers are pretty easy to figure out.
In the end, analog mixers are actually pretty crude devices, and
what companies really were putting the money into, was making sure
the stuff was durable.

Even the circuitry of a basic refrigerator is more advanced than a 3 channel dj mixer. And all that has to do is monitor temp, turn on cooling element if temp goes above set temp. The light that goes on when you open the door isn't even part of it. That's just a mechanical off/on switch.

And yeah, my point being, seeing as a mixer is just a big plastic board with controllers on it, there's basically nothing but dead space. Seeing the lines that go from the different things is easy. You'll be allright.

I could figure it out if the mixer was in front of my but I can't really help without.

What I did find is the original guy who figured this out, and El-Zapo who posted here seems to have got the idea from him.

His email is also listed in the thread and at least in 2003 the pictures existed on two people's hard drives so you may want to drop him a line and see if you can get him?

DJ Rann - Thanks for taking the time to look this up and make the suggestion. Unfortunately I have already tried emailing El-Zappo and didn't get a reply.
However, prompted by your optimism, I figured that I probably know enough electronics to work this out just from the description, so I will give this a go when I get some time (although I've got a cooker to fix first!), so sometime in the next three weeks I'll jump right in. I'll let you know how it goes!

So sad... I screwed it up somewhere along the line. Seriously I spent 9 hours on this and now it's worse than I started. I'm so bummed because my four kids bought this for me as a birthday gift for me and I've only used it twice.
The problem was trying to figure out which tracks to cut without a picture. The circuit board is so difficult to try and follow, with tracks on both sides of the board. I used a meter to do continuity checks and found four places where there was a connection to the "Split" side of the switch that didn't seem to be effected by the switch position. I am confident that I wired the tape out to the "Split" side of the switch, that was the easy part, but I think I must have cut more than I should have done, and there's no room to even get my soldering iron in to where I think the problem could be.
The end result? The switch now does what I want (Stereo outputs the PFL mix as before) and the Split does output the live output, BUT... it's only playing out of one side of my headphones now. Now I've voided the warranty, so I guess I'm stuck with it like this. Perhaps I'll buy a stereo to Mono adapter plug and just live with listening to one channel =(

haha bummer dude. but stereo-to-mono jack seems like the solution. You don't really need stereo monitoring for cueing anyways. I mean, most dj's only cue with one ear anyways.

That's true, but this is what I use at home, it's nice to have the option to put on headphones and crank it up. I guess I can always do that through the amplifier instead. I've got a friend who's promised to take a look tomorrow though and see if he can fix the mess I've made. I do hope so... =/

Well, it may have taken a total of 13 hours, but I DID eventually get it working. How easy would it all have been if I'd had the one photograph of where to cut the board! LOL
Long story short, I wired directly from the middle of the mix switch over to the input pin of the headphone volume pot and VOILA! I learned a lot along the way though.
