this may be a dead issue as a recent gallup poll has 53% of colorado against this measure with 39% for it. a stark contrast from a month ago.

Building on what Imokurok said a ways back up this thread--what would likely happen would be a 5/4 split of the votes, essentially making Colorado only a 1 electoral vote state. If you got 5, the other candidate in a 2 way election would therfore receive the other 4, making the net effect a 1 electoral vote gain. The problem that creates is that campaigning in Colorado might all but dry up because it wouldn't be viewed as worth the effort to get only 1 vote--essentially rendering the state irrelevant in elections. That's all just theory of course, and a multi-partied race might change the distribution of the votes a bit, but in the end nobody would ever end up getting all of the electoral votes, so Colorado's significance/importance in the overall vote would certainly be less under a new system than under the current one.

I'm not saying I oppose or favor the idea, I'm just saying what I think the likely ramifications would be.

How exactly are they planning to divide the electoral votes up according to the popular vote?

This one probaby will lose and as such, it will be a non-issue when it comes to Coloroda's electoral votes.
