This world series is a Phillies' fan worst nightmare.

You got Rolen, who wanted to bolt out of Philadelphia during his playing days (and still gets mercilessly booed whenever he's at bat in Philly)

v

Terry Francona, who managed the young 1997-2000 phillies to nowhere and Curt Schilling, the team's former ace who decided to sign with Boston instead of going back to the Phillies

I'm confused by NL rules... so apparently a Designated Hitter (like Ortiz) has to play a position under NL rules or else he's not allowed to bat?

Does this apply to pitchers as well?

I think this series is gonna be great. Boston has played the Cardinals in the world series (once in the 40's and once in the 60's) and both times St. Louis has the highest number of wins per season.

I'm hoping that 3 times is NOT a charm this year, because I'm rooting for the Red Sox. Its just interesting to point out. Of course...people said that Boston wouldn't be able to beat the Yankees and look what happened!

SO anything is possible, im sure its going to be one hell of a series

A designated hitter is allocated in the American league so that pitcher's are not suppose to bat. However in the National League there are no designated hitters so the pitcher has to bat. Strategy-wise you can do alot be it that you pinch hit for the pitcher forcing you to bring in a new pitcher or someone like Ortiz will have to play a position.

So for the NL ruled games , Ortiz has to play a position? What position will he play?

Did Steven Tyler sing a few incorrect lyrics for the Star Spangled Banner?
It sounded like it to me, though maybe that was because I was in a restaurant at the time, and the audio wasn't too loud

Ortiz puts Boston on the board in the 1st inning!
Too bad the Green Monster keeps Millar from following up on the very next pitch
Williams is running up his pitch count already
The Cards have great defense but the most important they'll need is at the mound
