I was actually thinking about this when I got out of a movie last night...how good it is to be in complete control of your own life and perception.

I was driving at about midnight on the freeway coming home. As soon as I got onto the highway, I hit the gas - I accelerated up to about 120mph and passed pretty much everyone who was out there (not too many people out at 12:30). I rolled all the windows down and turned up the music all the way. Then I turned my headlights off. It was pure fucking life and I was taking a risk seeing as how there were absolutely no lights on the side of the freeway - only dense, Florida forest. A conscious machine would never allow this - it just doesn't make sense in accordance to both traffic laws OR survival chances. - then again, neither does even leaving the house these days

I like my control, no matter how foolhardy it may be. I would never willingly give up that freedom to a machine.

i'm worried that the robots will take over as we shall all die due to lake of fresh water but the robots keep a select few to breed for slaves.

(disclaimer: i do belive if thus be the case they will keep me )

The difference between creating an "AI" system to perform a specific physical function e.g. navigating a car or scanning your shit at a store and creating one in which the AI exhibits genuine creativity, desires, or emotions is so wide it doesn't even make sense to talk about them in the same discussion.

Eventually with the way technology is developing we are going to find more and more people staying indoors than ever before. If you look at the youth of today, you can see this forming. Everything that I would ever need is available to me indoors, whether it be playing video games, internet, watching TV, phones. Soon you will be able to order items from the store through your refridgerator(like in 7th day), virtual reality will let people go places and visit other people virtually without actually going anywhere, and everything will be controlled electronically. I can already sit inside playing MMORPG's all day long and not think twice about it. Eventually we would need to go outside to get some fresh air, but for the most part everything you could ever want would be available to you.

the whole idea of robots taking over the world is kinda ludacris. The invention of a large scale EMP blast would happen before robots would take over the world. Therefore, robots would not take over the world.

people in 60s thought that today we'd be flying around in spaceship-cars, - but we arent.

its all just science fiction.

Imagine that people will have autopilot cars, even maybe flying ones

no fucking way. No fucking way there would be autopilot for cars in the city. Too many variables and variations and too many things can go wrong for it even be considered as a safe way of transport. Remember, computers are machines and designed by software programmed by humans. The risk of crashes of autopilots cars in the city is extremely high. Autopilot planes are different because the traffic in the sky is low and you dont slow and stop and accerlate so many times in the sky, at least not stop.

Again, flying cars, unlikely that it would take over take the necessity for ground transportation. Flying vehicles is a possibility for the future and seems probable, but i think flying vehicles on a scale of mass transportation from one end of the city to another is more likely than individual cars flying around, due to cost of maintaining, traffic, etc.

It is not so inconcievable for cars will be on autopilot, I read about this thing where engineers are busy developing a system where the road itself will guide cars automatically to destinations the passanger has chosen, the road will know where every car is and there will be no more traffic jams and shit...
And like I said before, there are alot of clever people out there that don't want to be controlled and I'm sure that alot of them will find away around autopilot and drive manually, and since there won't be any traffic police since everything is automated, driving manually is the way to go
