I dont care how much of a dork I look like with a helmet on, but after taking out a tree(about 4 feet tall, 1/2 inch diameter) with my head I decided it would be best for me wear one.

I need a helmet, I don't care how they look, they just annoy me, I'm always fijiting (sp?) with them, same with mountain bike helmets.

I have been lucky and haven't done any damage to myself yet, I did have a bad fall one time and thought I broke my neck, I was shooting down the slope, was heading to the halfpipe and before I got there, there was a rock that you couldn't see just slightly sticking out enough to catch the front of my board, I went flying into the air, and landed on my neck, I was stunned and couldn't quite move, I also heard a crack when I fell on it, I lay there to scared to move just incase I couldn't move, but then I twitched and realised I was ok, it must of been a muscle that made that crack sound, my neck was super stiff the next day, I'v had one other fall like that, wasn't as bad though, the rest are your usual biffs and tumbles from jumps and catching an edge.

Thats one good thing about powder, its hard to hurt yourself, me and a couple mates were out backcountry and I went shooting down this not far off vertical drop, when I started to level out I dunno what happened but the next thing I knew, I was upside down with my head in the snow, oh god it must of looked so dam funny, I was even laughing, my mates thought it was great aswell, wish I had a camera.

LOL.. that would look hilarious.

as far as the crack, im guessing you just cracked the joints... i do it all the time to ease up stiffness. fuckin man made snow... one day the temp goes about 32F / 0 C and the next time it gets below freezing, its pure ice done every slope. hard as hell to carve and you fall, you're down for the day...

Yea I know man, I've had my fair share of ice runs, ice was actually what I practiced on, since I couldn't make it to any decent mountain resorts, I got so used to the ice that good conditions I found hard, but its all good now, I'm fine with the snow and still have no trouble on ice, but its no where near as fun, and if you go down, its hard to get back up.

you should look for the snowboard buyers guide. if you got a sports store around like rei they'll have it or should have it anyway. i'm not looking for gear this year, just clothes. i looked at ride and burton boots last year. ending up getting the shuan white model burton boots. i hear ride boots are good though. on the boa system i've also heard that it'll automatically tighten up when you start boarding and my get too tight sometimes but thats just here-say, you gotta give them a try. i like the idea of the boa system, i even tried the northwave boa last season. too bad my foot doesn't fit northwave boots too well. other then that make sure the boot will fit the bindings that your using.
