i wouldn't format. just run system restore to a date before you had the virus. plus after you do this, make sure to run that virus scan aagin and then that beagle worm removal tool you got just to be safe

winXP system restore = start/all programs/accessories/system tool/system restore

use i want to restore my computer to a previous date.

through experience i've learn that if you do this make sure to back up real important files. because even thought system resotre is just suposed to set you properties back to a certain date. for some reason i lost some files for no reason. But for the most part it does its job. Also if it fails because the virus damaged your OS too severly. then format.

If you don't have system restore then just boot from the install cd and install XP just like the first time.... do not go into repair option. Just do like you would install windows for the first time. .. it will detect the previous installation and ask you if you want it fixed...just say yes and it will reinstall just the windows.. All your programs, profiles and settings will still be there.
