Well, like me you could spend $400 for a whole package of crap. Then spend $6000-$8000 on vinyl, then realise how much more expensive vinyl is. Believe me, $400 on cheap crap won't be worth anything when you try to sell and would be a pain to use. If you shop around you may be able to find a used 1200 for around $200 and that would be a good start for your setup. Just remember, you get what you pay for.

really, direct drive is a must. belt drive decks have so many disadvantages, and cheap direct drives are not much more expensive.

with a belt drive it:

*won't hold its pitch anywhere near as well
*will snap and you will gave to replace the belt, which is a pain in itself
*with age the belt wears and stretches, meaning that adjustments you have learnt go out of the window after a year or so
*will not react well to back-cueing, scratching, and manipulation during a mix.

i am all for learning on cheap decks (i did), it does in the long-run make you a better DJ. but honestly, go for direct drives, they will last you longer and they are much more enjoyable to use.

on a more serious note i recomend u wait a while and get the good stuff. you dont have to go technics but there are cheaper options which still are better. djing is not cheap.

another disadvantage to belt drives is that unless you are really gentile, the platter will tip when you press on the record, scratching is almost out of the question as when you try, it makes the needle bounce, also another problem i recently had was that since the platter isnt strudy, it skips because the angle of the spin isnt exactly flat on the deck

belt drives just feel cheap over all, they work, but dont expect the best performance

that mixer is almost the same as mine accept its 3in bigger and it has peak meters for the channels

i own the gemsound package, not bad for beginners, but after about a year if youre still into it, you'll want to upgrade

why much would be the cheapest cdjs that can scratch?

dn-s3000 or cdj800, are the cheapest players that are good for scratching. The dn-s3000 would probably favourable if youre into turntablism, because of the spinning platter.

not very much, if any.

It all comes down to you get what you pay for.

EDIT: just realised that the mixer only has 2 band eqs. You can certainly learn using a mixer with 2 band eqs, but theres really no reason to. Theres enough cheap 3 band mixers out there.
