I think some of you have a very broad definition for a very specific term. Or at least, people have been raised by their society to conform to their society for as long as civilization has been in place - it's just the way of things. True 'brainwashing' is a lot like hypnotism - you won't be controlled by it until you give in to it in the first place. So there's no real way you can blame the media for your entire life, now is there?

Nobody ties you to your couch to watch MTV all day (thank God). Nobody ties you to your computer all day (that can be debated, I suppose ) in order to look at the internet all day. You were, however, raised with a sense of societal retribution and reward - what you choose to do with this sense is of your own free will.

Don't plead the 'brainwashed' card for your own ignorance/laziness.

I agree with you on this one. A lot of America is just plain ignorance, not necessarily the result of a governmental brainwashing tactic. And yes, being brainwashed is a result of submitting to a belief system. Someone once tried to turn me to a born again, and for a while I was really convinced that I might want to be saved, and live the rest of my life in the name of the lord.
