wow
Unbeleivable because I love techno to death!!!!

But my Favourites I think you should try are Misstress Barbara and Richie Hawtin!!!!!!!!

I can dance to techno better than I can dance to anything else really.

Dancing to Trance is definately something I would like to work on myself.

Its not even the greatest set, but I really like Miss Kittin at I Love Techno 2003.

Good to hear you're still open minded about techno despite hearing a lot of it that you don't like.

I think the suggestions in this thread are good, but if you're not into Carl Cox, Technasia, Saunderson or Picotto then you're probably not going to enjoy Hawtin, Barbara, Cave or Parisio. All of the top DJs are playing the same records with the same sound.

Right now I'm going through a phase with techno where I'm looking for something new, something different, a new sound to get hooked on. Lately I've found popular techno to be fun, but ultimately predictable.

If you're looking for SOULFUL techno (ie not bang bang, not tribal, not noise) try searching for sets/CDs by Bryan Zentz, Chris Cowie, Claude Young, Stacey Pullen, SLAM, Miss Kittin (very eclectic techno like Vath can play) Mr C...and locally, the dukes, Kenny Glasgow, tim patrick (there is a set for download on tribe from harvest festival - kickass!).

I think Barbara and Cave are a bit different from the rest. And Slam (when he's actually putting on the techno records) is a lot like Picotto - not Picotto in Toronto, which usually sucks, but Picotto if you listen to his live sets from overseas.

Depending on which set you get, Umek can also be radically different. Some of their sets sound like typical schranz or swedish techno, others are veering on the side of house music. And in Umek's more electro-ey sets, there'll be a lot of tracks you won't hear anywhere else, they're often this quirky house-electro-techno hybrid (NOT tech house, there's a difference).

Miss Kittin is definitely different - if you're not into anything you've heard so far then try one of her sets.

Sarah's suggestions and advice are very good, and I would advise following them.

And while it sounds like the kind of techno you've heard and *not* liked is the kind of techno I do, I have a few more ideas to throw into the mix for you:

- T. Raumschmiere
- Monika Kruse
- Steve Bug
- Huntemann
- Laurent Garnier

If you can't find something you like among all of the ideas that people have provided in this thread, something tells me that techno is not for you.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, really appreciate it.

I think i tend more towards the soulful techno as Skipper put it, although there are times when i just go crazy when a real stormer of a track is thrown into the mix. My problem with a techno set is when every track is a fast n furious bass driver. I'm looking for the journey, so i expect it to start slow, and then build up to an apex where suddenly you're in the middle of a techno storm (or something like that .

So of the guys mentioned, i've already listened to and enjoy:

Sven Vath (<--- Top Class, always delivers as far as i'm concerned)
Kenny Glasgow (<-- while i wouldn't say he's purely techno, this man is just a bad boy on the decks -- love his sets...love em !!! )
Chris Cowie (<--- heard his mix comp which was very good )
Stacey Pullen (<--- enjoyed his stuff as well )

I find most of the top Techno DJ's a little harder to appreciate, but i'm definately digging the diverse sounds that some of the lesser known techno dj's are trying to promote.
