99.9999% of research conducted on this thread indicates that the word "affects" is used incorrectly in the thread title.

It's better to look at avg RPM (if you're on a bike, that is) rather than burnt calories. How are you determing how many calories you burned?

Music distracts me too much. It sucks when they're playing stuff on the gym system but it's usually silent enough to tune out.

i listen to ASOT's on my RIo mp3 player while doing cardio on the Precor elliptical machine. I found that i go faster and get a better workout and burn more calories if i listen to Manu Chao instead. so go figure.

seriously dude, I read about all this research ppl do about how media effects our lives and u kno the biggest one is if media violence makes us violent ourselves

so they do all this research and surveys and tests and crap and then in the end they come to the conclusion "for some ppl media violence has an affect on their behavior, but for other ppl it doesn't"

so wow tell me something i didn't kno before... thanks for wasting all that time and money

i find that the majority of humanities based research is pretty lame and useless, there are so many variables that affect our lives it's almost impossible to come to any solid conclusion

but its the best we can do and some results are useful. When you look at such a broad topic as violence you need to pin point it down, which is what most experiments do, and you need to read those individual ones to actually understand wtf they are getting at.

I know Bandura did a shit ton with violence and influence of tv. seemed kinda pointless back then but now he helps a TV production company make serial dramas (soap operas) in countries where they ahve problems. Like in mexico birth rate was outta control so they used banduras techniques in a tv show and condom sales went from like 1 million to over 4 million after the first season ended.

it can be powerful and useful....depends on which articles you read .
