Dear Nemesis,

I can't remember the exact dates but Darude (assuming this was) was definately in attendance that night with laptop and CDJ. I have to confess that my knowledge of traktor and all things laptop related is very limited so whatever you had on there, you will know better than me.

Yes, I played live once in Skövde in 2000 or 2001. It is possible you saw me.
Around that time I only played live electronic sets (since last year I've also been booked as a dj). I was using either CMX5000 or CDJ500S x2, DJM600 or Behringer MX1602, Korg Triton Rack or E-Mu ESi4000, Yamaha RM1x or Yamaha RS7k, a basic midikeyb or Korg Karma (can't remember which of each I had there, didn't even find one pic of that night but I had a keyb, hw-seq and a sampler + the cd-players and a mixer with me all the time) and back then I was not using the laptop (iBook) other than for having a setlist textfile open on the screen. I had background tracks and building block parts of tracks on cds and all the live stuff (loops, melodies, fx etc) programmed in the hardware sequencer and the sampler. I was also travelling with an MC back then and I don't recall leaving him home just for that one occasion. You noticed him?

My facts are straight, and you have to learn to deal with criticism if someone doesn't like what you do. I didn't like what I saw, I thought it was poor so deal with it. I'm allowed my opinion just as those people who voted you into the top 50.
...but just because you write an angry post and say prove it, don't expect that I will back down.

Nope, of course I won't expect that. I really wanted to know what you saw because what you said didn't sound like me or my set, that's all. It still doesn't. I thought "checking my emails" and "just sitting with a blank expression all night showing no interest" was *a little harsh*. Like I said I'm sure I've had a little quieter days but I'm pretty much always happy to be on stage and I love interacting with the crowd. I decided to make a comment since you didn't really seem to know what you were talking about (Sitting? During my set? Wtf?).
I won't back down either about my "If my set didn't do it for you, well, go see someone else next time or something but get your facts straight before you come here and start talking shit about me (or anyone else)" because you didn't just make a mistake about the software I was supposedly using but the fact that you didn't realize the difference between my live set with the keyboard etc and a dj set. And you didn't even see the whole set? (You didn't "stick around")
I am sorry (for you and me both, believe me!) if you didn't like my set but trust me, if I defended myself everytime someone doesn't like my music I'd have to be online *48*/7 and I still wouldn't have time to reply to everyone. I don't like all the djs and all the bands in the world myself. You (not) liking my music or my set is not a big deal to me but that kinda inaccuracies said about my set feel pretty strange to me. Especially when you're a dj who's been in the business for long I would've thought you would've realized it was not a dj set to start with (the set being good or bad in a way doesn't even matter in that sense).

By the way I see you mentioned train wrecks. I don't recal bringing this up...

"But I have to say that he was cheating with the beat matching and let's face it, if you are going to be in the TOp 50 DJs in the world then you have to use more than just traktor to win my vote."
Well, you are right but your above comment kinda translated to me like that (or that I would've wrecked if I hadn't used the-Traktor-I-didn't-then-know-even-existed).
Btw, of course you're entitled to your opinion of Traktor but I think you're missing out if you don't give stuff like Traktor a try (like a lot of people on the Dj Mag Top100 for eg. have). Freaking awesome stuff! What difference does it make if you control a digital file with a vinyl, a cd or a midicontroller? You still have to beatmatch (though I admit, personally I find cds easier than vinyl but that's not the reason I don't use it; I simply find vinyl impractical and limited for my use), select the tracks, program your set, interact with the audience... Why is it that using more technology (which gives you more ways to manipulate what you're playing and at the same time can help you to concentrate more on other stuff than beatmatching or physically taking records out of the crate and cueing it up manually) is so bad?
Anyway... Each to their own... In my huble opinion the media doesn't matter, the music does.
Ville/Darude
