I think you have to be respectful of the fact that you are being hired to open for Sasha, so your first priority should be to do the best job possible as an opener. It's not about compromising your art, you don't have to trainwreck and play crap music to make Sasha look good. But as opener, your job is definitely not to peak the crowd out.

If you were being hired to headline at an event, then you could feel free to bang out anthem after anthem, if that's how you are so inclined.

It's also about a nights progression. You want it to peak near the end not have some jackass with no sense of building up an evening who slams it right when the doors open

I hate it when there's a dj who's trying to slam it when he's at an opening slot.

bla bla bla....
Go back and re-read twizta's post, he's got the slot right before Sasha so he won't be "slamming it right when the doors open" now will he.
And I do agree with Dissent in the fact that it's not a competition, however, if the local guy (twizta in this case) is talented and knows how to work his home crowd, there's no reason for him to hold back IMO. For my money I'd rather see several of the Dj's throw down instead of everybody "playing it safe" and leading up to one headliner at the end of the night.
Seriously, have you ever been to Ultra or any of the Space nights at WMC? Those are full nights with nothing but "headliners"...you think Tiesto is gonna take it easy if PvD is playing after him or vice versa?

I agree. I love seeing a line up of top Djs playing back to back at a show like Ultra, it's a great way to compare styles, track selection etc. It's always a laugh to see someone like Oaky go in those situations, poor bastard really struggles and reaches into his box to pull out the most OBVIOUS tunes.

That being said, it's also fun to go see a single headliner and enjoy the anticipation while listening to the openers. One time I heard Sean Cusick open for Sasha and while he was playing laid back proggy, he blew me away.

Comparing ULTRA which has 100+ ( is that the figure? ) headliner djs with a club event with ONE headliner are two separate worlds.
I can't even believe you brought that in. That's not at all the same thing not even the same planet.
Such an ignorant statement.

The whole idea of anyone playing whatever they feel like playing no matter what their slot is truly comes from the whole rave scene; the idea of instant gratification which is more damaging then building.

If a dj is insensitive as to what other djs are doing he needs to be shot.

Twista has been placed right before the headliner which does give him the right to push it more then the ones prior to him but under no circumstances should he be banging it!

Raves and clubs are two different worlds.

Neither is "better".

Every person has their preference.

old school raves had the idea of progression going on.

Now you have everyone who's a dj and everyone who wants the hot spot so much that they'll burn everyone else to get it.

It's true I can't make the statement that a progressing night is better then instant gratification but it does somehow make more sense; to me.

sasha's not gonna play melodic and uplifting.

if his gig in sydney two nights ago is any indicator, it's going to be a lot of house and breaks. limited prog, and almost zero uplifting/melodic trance.

For sure. I find it very hard to compare a night at a club (even with an awsome Dj) to a Dance Event/Rave. For me club nigts are fun as hell, but raves (with music progression) are an out-of-body experience that fucks with ur emotions to the point that u wake up the next day thinking that u can never have fun again cos u just experienced the ultimate euphoria (maybe pills got something to do with it )...but thats just me
