Another thing is that you have to like trance for the pure sound of it.

People can relate(either from experience or imagination) to other forms of music, especially hip hop. You can't do that with EDM.

Other forms of music tell stories, trance does not.

Like I said in first post. EDM for the most part is deeper... It's harder to get into. It is meant to evoke a feeling. The information transferred takes longer to decode. Just like anything that needs effort, only people who like it will do it.

Yes commercialization has some effect, but whenever I go shopping all I hear is EDM in the stores, at least on South Beach and other places in FL. One funny thing.

When the hip hop stations are talking, they have EDM playing in the background lol.

Hip hop is also a product. It's been packaged by MTV and sold to young people (18-24). Especially with the videos, it's easy to see why it is such an effective product. I would say 50-70% of all hip-hop videos involve booty shaking girls to some degree or another so guys will watch it. Hip hop is also a huge purveyor of materialism. Highlighted in the use of flashy cars and lots of diamonds.

But just like every other genre of music, hip hop is a phase. If you track MTV from its start in '81, you'll see that it shifts its style of music. Whether MTV dictates what's "popular" or just reacts to what it thinks its audience wants is another discussion. My opinion is that the two effects work in tandem.

Don't get me started on what I think of hip hop.

Hip Hop is not easier to get into, I mean, we aren't 2 year children learning to walk, you don't need to listen to a certain amount of a genre of music to like it ffs.

Hyoctane, the information takes longer to decode?

Its not the Matrix, its music.

What I meant by decode was that trance is a deeper music. Music is meant to be enjoyed. It takes longer; whether it be in any given song or the whole genre for that matter, to develop that enjoyment with trance.

People will not always give it a chance because it takes longer at any given time to derive enjoyment out of the music. All many people say is "it's the same constant beat the whole time" They don't here enough variety or let enough time pass to hear the "whole" of it.

Whereas with hip hop, its "fun" right from the get go and keeps that energy the whole time.

The packaging and materialism(superficial, not deep like trance like I've been saying the whole time) was a good point.

Most generic trance poo released nowadays is just as easy to 'decode', to put it in your words.

I spend a lot of time producing, so I guess I find I just need a break from the style, I guess you could look at it a bit like business/pleasure even though of course I do enjoy both!.

Even some people who listen to commercial rap/hiphop don't/won't listen to the underground.

The best answer is, some people are tools, and they don't care what others think.

I don't think it's sad. If he likes hip-hop, all the more power to him. It's not sad if he doesn't like/dislike the same things you do.
