thinking outside of ram, have you ever tried to run tests on your cpu, and see how much cpu power windows apps run in longhorn? in xp, they use a lot of cpu, but then again i am on a celeron. i heard it's a little bit better management in the pIV, but not as significant.

Most programs today are a patchwork of bloated, poorly written code that use ram inefficiently. Microsoft is the king of bad code and are synonymous with memory leaks. They depend on faster cpu's and more ram to mask their ineptitude.

Weren't they going to make Longhorn to help "prevent piracy". That was a word back in the day, I haven't checked into it for awhile though.

You should be more concerned about picking a next-generation CPU before trying to run a next-generation OS. Anyhow, newer OSs --> more functions --> need for more RAM. Yes, this is a greatly simplified version of the situation but it works for this. If you want to be using OSs with better capabilities, it's a no brainer that you are going to at least need more RAM/CPU/whatever to run it.

i have it, but haven't installed it. the installation setup looks pretty cool. i probably won't touch it. the beta has something like 180 day trial so, why bother with installation? plus, my cpu isn't all souped up and upgraded.

Ok guys, the reason for the new Microsoft Longhorn which isn't going to be released untill 2006. Is for the next generation in Windows. Its like windows XP/linux/mac . Its all together. There working on a nice broswer, much like Firefox. The public beta should be out in 2005. I'll post it as soon as I know. If you find any graphics from Build 7074 post them on here.

Longhorn won't even include the new file system. They pushed that back another two years.
