This needs to be locked, this is bad advice, I know your new to all this, but please think before you post something like this, also when its working again, use the search button for any questions you have, as being new most of your questions will already of been asked and answered and will be somewhere in the TA archives, we're all willing to help here, but not with posts like this.

yeah you can get away with playing out Cds in some places like school dances and house parties but as a senior in high school myself i can tell you firsthand that you can get alot more out of the crowd if they see you spinning vinyl, otherwise you're just the guy playing the music behind the little box

as far as using your computer and an Ipod?

yeah you can use a program like Mixvibes for example on your computer but there are all sorts of things that can go wrong
*especially when playing out with your computer/laptop* (unless you've put loads of money into it with memory upgrades and you dont use it for anything other than playing out)

also, not everyone may like the music you're playing(unless you play a bit of everything) but people can appreciate the fact that you're playing on turntables rather than just clicking around or pressing buttons - makes it more interesting

bingo, you find one promotor who has ANY interest in you, as long as u follow it up, doors open....

vinyl is great, if u start with vinyl, mixing with cds becomes much easier because u get a strong base in mixing and beatmatching.. i dunno i love vinyl, fiddling with records was one thing which attracted me to djing when i was younger...its a preference tho.. but people who spin cds are geberally mixing ubought music.. do u want dance to die? didnt think so.. buy music in some form before spinning it live..

coleman, i have to give it to you, those tracks you produced aren't that bad. Seriously. Some people here gave you a lot of shit about them, but you're on the way to a good start.

Now. stick to producing. Obviously you don't really know your elbow from your asshole when it comes to DJing and that is fine, but don't offer up newbies advice like this. This is bad.

So, keep up the good work on producing, learn how to DJ and what you need by reading what other people post in here and everything should be all set.
