Every kid who is depressed these days is "diagnosed" as having chronic depression. Everyone I've ever known has gone through a period in their lives (Usually mid-teens) where they are depressed, and they didn't need pills to get out of it.
I'd say 15% of those on anti-depressants, actually need them.

Agreed. Anti-Depressants treat the symptoms of a variety of problems, but take away the drugs and the problem is still there.
Took anti-depressants for a short time, now not at all.

If you're a teen and you're not sad, you're wasting your youth!

actually, they help. i was irritable all the time, and i stayed in my room for days its seemed at times, only coming out to eat and use the bathroom. celebrex made me more social, and i did feel happier. now, i dont need anti-depressants no more. the thing that was causing me to become so depressed left me at 14, and im so glad.

the way it works is....
being "unhappy" for a prolonged period of time (maybe because of outside forces) CAN alter your chemical balance.
even if everything goes sweet after that, you can still feel "depressed" because your chems are a bit lop sided.
anti depressants are to try and swing your chemicals back onto an even keel. After a while, with the help of anti's, your body will regain it's normal balance, and you can stop taking them.
