Crobar is definitely better but most of the DJ's there are house guys. Avalon has the trance and hard house guys that I want to see as a change of pace. I guess I go out enough I don't want to get stuck going to the same spot over and over again.
I think that particular wack crowd is drawn more into the harder edge guys. Mauro Picotto is a prime example. Or even Bad Boy Bill. That was horrendous! I wasn't feeling that one bit. Why was I there? I must have been smoking crack.
People take drugs at Central Park gigs and other places of the world I've been to and it's cool. In Asia too, that's not the point. Taking E or whatever, I don't care (believe me, I've done it myself). But they aren't so wacked out of their freaking minds that it completely overwhelms the rest of the people like the crowd at Avalon.
I'm almost 29 years old, my tolerance is getting less and less. Should I be at home with 3 kids watching Sponge Bob? Not yet....
My idea for a club has always been to have one whole side of the club to be an open window. So when you're dancing, the outside moon is shining into the club. The moon would be behind the DJ. It kind of sounds stupid but if it was done the right way. But the club would be on the waterfront so you're dancing looking towards the waterfront. It's a bit of a stretch..... but just my irrational ramblings.
I understand the difficulties in running a club, it's a nightmare. Police, drugs, fights, booking talent, staying ahead of the times, drink theft, door guy discounts, etc.
It's just that Avalon does get a lot of DJ's I want to see. Is there something they could do to make it not such a cess pool? I'm not the expert.
My buddies that have been to Toronto say that Guvernment is awesome. So I'm looking forward to going there and seeing everything next month.
I guess me being the newbie to New York, I have high expectations for the club scene here. We sure get a boat load of good DJ's but we just need better clubs to experience them in with cool, classier, better looking crowds.
The sideshow freaks are ok sometimes but it has gone a little too far.
Oh well... I guess I'll stop bitching now.

totally agree with the avalon post...i spent almost every weekend ther last winter had amazing times!!! but its on its way down and quickly for me it all started when i went for G&D a couple of months i was disgusted in the vibe and the crowd it was depressing i never left a club feeling so bad in my life fuck Avalon they allowed it the get this way the limelight isn't around for a reason DONT TRY TO BRING IT BACK! I've actaully become a big Crobar fan , thats a classy club with a slight underground feel to it good DJ's not many trance but agreat vibe as much as i love Marco V i jsut can't get myself to go to avalon Marvo V would blow the roof of Crobar even Spirit ANYTHING but Avalon!

Re: Avalon is a mess!
New Yoookers know how to party hard.. lol...
I do hear your point, plus most fob asians in the clubs have reverse psychology, usually people are very lovy dovey and friendly on E, but those fawker seem to take them backwards or something.. Once I offered a light to a guy who been trying to light up his cigarette for 10 minutes with matches, but since his eyeballs where above the forehead, couldnt.. so instead of thanking me, he pushed me the fawk outta the way.. and ye, he was rollin...

I would actually like to see Christopher Lawrence and Marco V coming up but I've been having second thoughts because lately the crowd has really put a damper on my festivities. I've gone to clubs hundreds of times and was one of the only white guys and I'm comfortable with that, but couldn't the crowd be a little more on the younger side? Couldn't they take 2 less E? Couldn't they bogart a little less of the space so I can move?
Most of all my girlfriends have been Asian and I lived in Asia, but 55 year old Asian Fob's who are completely banged up on 3X and Ketamine isn't that cool!
The setup is so packed with those huge blocks in the middle of the dance floor and that empty stage on the side...it's simply ruining my vibe.
Sorry, I've only lived in New York for 6 months so I'm not used to this as much. Can't the crowd just be a little younger and slightly more toned down? Take examples from Zouk in Singapore or some clubs in Hong Kong, Tokyo, etc. that add a little more class, still have some side entertainment, and still have wild (but still in control) trance nights.
It's New York...the standard should be higher.
I know you native New Yorkers out there know more of what's going on than me.... so why has all this mess happened just recently?
