three years DJ'ing has finally reached the pinnacle point.

Wish me luck and anyone have any suggestions?

I will be playing progressive (James Holden style).

mmmm Holden style...

1) Get there early
2) Have 2-3 beers to calm your nerves
3) Make sure you know the sound system or specifically the mixer, even if its just looking over the shoulder of the guy before you...best to come in before the club opens if you have the chance

have fun mate....

Oh and I forgot.....mix in from the last guys tune if you can....keeps the energy going, otherwise you have to start from 0 again pretty much. Its also a bit arrogant.

FuzzyGreen: I was in the same situation as you about 3 months ago and posted the same sort of thread. I got a lot of very useful advice from people here and overall the gig went very well.

Here's the thread:

By a funny coincidence, I got invited to do another peak-time gig for the same club... and it happens to be tonight! Very nervous/excited all over again....

Good luck, have fun and enjoy yourself! Everything else will fall into place.

Okay, first of all, because you're the second person on, you're gonna be nervous as hell (it's normal). This is adrenaline. Jump around the dancefloor and try to get rid of that feeling so you don't start shaking while you're up there.

Secondly, feel out the party... I don't know how many sets I've spun where I've tried to plan out what tracks I'm going to spin and I got there and I've had to scrap the entire set and spin on a whim.

I mean, yeah, have an idea of what you're going to play, but just be flexible.

Thirdly, get into it. I'm sure you've heard some immaculate sets, but the crowd doesn't realize it because the dj's not getting into it. Dance up there. You LOVE this music and if you're dancing up there, everyone else will get into it as well.

And let me end on this: that night will be one of the best experiences of your life. You will learn so much, the crowd will go a lot crazier than you think (most of the time your friend are there and THEY are the ones that help you get the crowd going), and you'll be pumped as hell... so just have fun, okay?

Have fun. Get there early. People don't usually notice mistakes so spin a great set.
