surely if the DJ before you knows that your gonna be playing trance then he/she will play up a bit towards the end of their set so that you kinda meet in the middle if you know what im on about.

Hopefully. Doesn't always happen though.

At which point you DEFINITELY want to get up on the mic.

"Hey, big thanks to DJ Amtrak over there, now I'll look good no matter what happens."

On the subject... lol kinda, what are some good tracks that are between 130 and 140 these would go nicely in mixing between house and trance

I would have thought playing some ProgTrance would go okay flow and bpmwise, which you can then build up to trance.
Suggestion - Tilt - World Doesn't know

for me this sounds definitely best. that is if the house dj is cool with you powering down his last track at the end.

I usually go with breaks and work into trance. Breaks are a very good middle ground with lots of energy and can also be played at varying speeds to good effect.
I love using Zero Emit/Collect (Renni Pilgrem version) for this purpose.

The other thing I like doing if I am going to change the vibe is fade out the other guys record as it gets to the end, turn to him and applaud him so that the dancefloor follows. Let him know that I appreciate what he did and get the crowd to do the same. Then after that they will be ready for a new vibe. It's like drawing a line under something.

Cheers
Nem

play some chunky-ass prog house! that goes nicely into some prog trance, and then away you go. if there is a big bpm difference (or at least too big to mix and make it sound good) kill the last record once its pretty much finished (a nice break trick works wonders) and judge the time (approx 4 beats) until you kick in your track from the start.

don't fade the last track out, it sounds shite unless its in a bit with no beat.

Heres a suggestion, check out some of Marco V's tracklists and look a the tracks he opens up with. They are usually on that border of Progressive/Tech House/Trance.

imo the best way to change shifts is to mix into the other guys record with one of your own. something quite minimal, a connecter track. maybe prog housey or breaky, and then play your next tune with a really floaty breakdown, mixing it in so that the breakdown somes straight in after the last tune. so that basically that will be your first tune that people will notice..and be your arrival.

fading out sounds shit.
