Irony

This is so ironic because here in the States we think Canadians are quiet and shy because they don't speak up for themselves. The common stereotype is that you're all smiles and giggles in person but vent in private because you don't want to whine or make a scene. Hmmmph...

Sadly we have become victims of our own greed and selfishness. When neighbours dont know how to be neighbours. Life used to be all about give and take. Now its all about me me me. It bothers ME so i dont care what you think. Thats the premise behind all the laws i protest and its the same premise behind this woman's complaint. My arguement is that if you dont like what others are doing in the designated areas then dont go there, live there, or eat there.

Im very tolerent of others. Im just very intolerent of intolerence. As for politics, thats a whole other story. Its everyone's god given right to complain about the Lieberals

First, you begin with a broad and unsubstantiated speculation about "reaping the rewards," whatever that means....and then talk about becoming victims of our own greed and selfishness.

It's the classic default of libertarianism and reflects your philosophical inconsistency. If you were a true libertarian, or more specifically, were an advocate for individual rights, you would not use "selfishness" in your lexicon (that is, selfishness as a negative thing).

For those of us that advocate individual rights, there's nothing wrong with "selfishness." Every individual has the right to pursue his own self interest, barring the use of physical force or fraud.

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with (most) of your positions on Canadian laws and the pure silliness of our politics, but I think you are mistaken in putting the blame on "selfishness."

The vast majority of laws that you compain about have nothing to do with "selfishness" but with the type of collectivism and "pressure group warfare" that is so rife in Canada. That is not selfishness but the desire for power hungry bureaucrats, unions, and government to impose the something on you, only because it is for the "public good" and therefore violates your individual rights.

In your scenario, you have the conflicting interest of two individuals who each have their own property rights, yours being the store and hers being her apartment. If you own the building, then you have every right to continue with the noise, and she has every right to leave. If you're both renting the place, then you have an agreement to settle with your landlord because it is he that ultimately holds property rights in this situation.

If you didn't manage to fall asleep for that post, I'm proud of you. Here's a big kiss.

There is nothing conflicting here. If you rent a place over a commercial area, expect commercial activity to occur. If you dont like it there are lots of places that you can rent that arent near any commercial areas. You see. im a libertarian when it comes to government policy. The government should stay out of our private lives.

However, when it comes to being a good neighbour you have to invoke common sense. Good neighbours dont move in above a restaurant and then start complaining about moving chairs. It's akin to moving next to a school and complaining about school kid's making noise or the school bell. (im sure this has happened somewhere).

As for the current situtation, if she doesnt like it she can leave. If thats not plain enough language i dont know what is. If we start catering to these kinds of fucktards than our whole society is in trouble.

PS: the laws that are made about smoking etc are selfishness

"i dont want to breathe ANY smoke and dont think you should either, therefore im going to lobby the government so i dont have to"

"cell phones annoy me, therefore im going to lobby the government to allow me to jam them in restaurants" (this is the current law being reviewed)

"i dont want to pay for someone's heathcare therefore i want the government to mandate helmet wearing"

etc etc...

oh yeah...inuits doint complain about the cold they endure in canada, so that proves Canadians done whine, just as your post proves Greeks done whine.

its amazing how you take the smallest examples and gerneralize and apply them to such a large group of people.

you failed to take into account that the church bells are probably part of an old tradition, which many greeks in the city maybe in favour of.

and your rant about people being selfish...its BS. i see canadian helping canadians/visitors all the time. young people helping the elderly with doors or bags, people giving directions, yes these are small examples, but i say important ones.

Canadians can whine all they want, but guess what - the rest of the world doesn't care.

I'd bet that 80% of the world's population has never even heard of Canada.
