Yes, I'm a pro-life. Even if it was a rape, the child doesn't need to pay. In this option, it was clearly the state's fault not to provide enough security, so the state should deal with it, not the child.

so you could deal with a constant reminder of your rape for the rest of your life? could you love something that was a result of such a vile act if you were a woman in that situation? i certainly couldn't, even though little mo from eastenders can.

most of the time, when an abortion occurs it isn't even what you can call a child anyway, its nothing more than a few cells and certainly not concious.

in my eyes, it is STUPID to take away the right to go and have an abortion if the person wants one.. obviously there needs to be good reasons.

regardless of whether people should be sleeping together, or whether they should have used contraception, the fact of the matter is that things have already happened and its a bit late to be giving lectures. when someone gets in this situation, often abortion is the best option. take a 14 year old girl for example, if that kid has a baby then it will basically ruin her chances of getting as far as possible in her education, not to mention the strain on the family.

then there is the research argument. stem cell research is THE most groundbreaking medical research currently active. it is thought that this research can and will bring the cure (or at least good treatment of) many syndromes, diseases and disorders like parkinsons, altzimers and many other problems. without abortions, this research is IMPOSSIBLE. why o why would we want to make such an important part of research impossible in the country which can probably do the best research?! its yet another backwards thing about america.

who will adopt all these babies anyway? the pro-life people?? get real.

yes, even if its rape, that child shouldnt have to pay the price for anything.

EDIT:: that is why the woman is supposed to go to the police right away, where in the the hospital they examine her and "probably" give her medication to stop any contraception from happening, im guessing the 3-day pill.

The reason why I say this is because I had a teacher whose daughter went through this experience. First of all, the child won't remind you of the rape - your memory will. Everytime you find yourself in a similar situation; even every time you have sex. Will you tell this person to adopt celibate and destroy the place in which she was raped? Even if it were destroyed, whatever happened next would remind her of the raping.

As for the child, it's an opportunity to have either a friend or, if it were a perfect society, you could hand the child to the state, who would be able of taking care of him/her. The Brazilian legislation accepts abortion only if it's a rape of if the mother's life is in danger, and we all know our government wouldn't be able to take care of the child, so in this case, fair enough, it's the state's foul we need to work on.

This is just an exception though. Countless cases happen because of the parents pure irresponsability. In this case, the child is not the one who should pay. My father was a irresponsible bastard, and I could've had an older brother, but his girlfriend (not my mother) decided to have an abortion. The child paid for their lack of responsability. Is it fair now?

This is good thinking. However, if this becomes the logic, youll be seeing lawsuits against the state to provide pre-natal, day, and other types of care to the child. Unless the offender is caught, the state will be stuck with the bill. As an citizen, would you be willing to foot the bill?

Accepting the state's irresponsability is not part of citizenship. If the state has failed to do its job, it should pay. Don't citizens have to pay whenever they do something wrong?

(sorry for being so simple with my English, but I'm on a hurry )

Primarily (sp?), I'm in favour that, like that fascist motto, you should always ask "What you can do for the state (instead of asking what the state can do for you)", however, if the state has failed to do its duty, it should pay. Yes, but (im keeping this very short), the state's funds come from taxes. Taxes are paid by the citizens and (often) the businesses who do businesses withint its borders
