The difference is that they will ban you from Xbox live, a subscription service that they own and operate. They have the right to ban you from their private service if they wish.

However, if I buy software, the software now belongs to me. Unless there's a big sticker on the front of the box "WILL NOT WORK IF YOU HAVE ALCOHOL/NERO/DAEMON TOOLS INSTALLED," and this fact is made clear to me prior to purchasing, then they have absolutely no right to sneak that bullshit onto me.

It would be like Halo 2 detecting a modchip, then refusing to play at all - no singleplayer or anything.

yeah but a few people told me that this info is bull crap, it only works if you only have the game copied (same goes to any game that has xbox live). i'm a bit skeptical about getting banned if your xbox is modified.

The title of this thread is both right and wrong, depending on the case.

This might get a little long, but bare with me...

Its like this. If you mod your Xbox and upgrade your hard drive BEFORE ever signing up on Live, you will not be banned from Live, provided you disable your modchip. Its called the marriage concept which I'll explain better in a second. When you sign up on Live, the serial number from your hard drive is recorded with your Live account. I have the X3, which has a disable switch. I play Halo 2 all the time on Live because I own the game. You CANNOT play ANY game on Live from your hard drive because that would mean the chip would have to be enabled. You MUST own the retail game in order to play any game on Live.

Here is how people are getting banned. People that mod their Xbox AFTER they have already signed up for Live, have gotten banned when playing Halo 2, even if their chips were disabled. This is where the marriage concept comes in. This concept is that when you sign up for live, the serial number of your harddrive marries your Live account. They become one. So when someone has already signed up on Live, then mods their Xbox and puts in a new hard drive with a new serial number, when they sign back into Live, there is a mismatch, and they are banned.

You can learn everything you need to know over at the forums on teamxecuter.com

If you're too much of a cheap bitch to get a chip that switches off then don't buy a mod chip at all.

Microsoft are cocksuckers, you don't see other computer companies whining and complaining about aftermarket mods, in fact a lot of video cards and processors make overclocking and whatnot easy.

Modding already voids the warranty what more do those greedy bastards want? Chips unleash the power of the console.

There is, in fact, a burning process by which you can make copied games work on XBL. I know this because I've done it. I can play both Burnout III and HL2 online.

And no, I won't discuss how this works. It's highly illegal, and the process is not posted anywhere online to my knowledge. I learned how to do it from a friend who works for Microsoft's XB testing team.

To list everything they can do, or at least a top of the line one like the Xecuter 3, would take up quite a bit of space. The main things you can do with them which most people are concerned with are:

  • Upgrade the Xbox's internal Hard Drive to a size of your choosing
  • Play Xbox games from a burned disc
  • Put a game into your Xbox, then simply copy it to your hard drive for play at anytime. Load times are greatly reduced and you can put away your games (or return them to the rental store) because all of your games are easily accessible directly from your hard drive.
  • Download Xbox games, put them on your Xbox's HD, away you go
  • Play a multitude of emulators

The list could go on, but those are some of the main things you can do.
