But surely these people are smart enough to realise this and not quite dumb enough to bitch about a commercial dance compilation designed to be bought by fans of other genres and casual edm fans. Some of the responses to this thread so far have proved me wrong though it seems.

I think the main problem that everyone has here is that MoS used to be aimed at the underground market, but over the last 3 years or so have turned into the usual money-making scam that we've seen all too many of. The last thing we need to get people 'onto the scene' is another organisiation pumping out commercial crap that consists purely of five year-old euro cheese.

I think that you will find that people buy this music because they like it, not because Minstry produces it. They are simply giving people what they want.

Maybe MoS realised that making albums for the commercial market does not make money. How horrible is the concept of a business looking to make money and not stay true to musical quality?

I have to agree that there are quite a lot of commercial, cheesy tracks on there, but i still like most of them It shows all of the biggest tracks for the year......

12. Eric Prydz & Steve Angello - Woz Not Woz

Well I love diversity.

Sasha's Involver wouldn't be near as good if every album was exactly like it. We are quite accepting of different things in this world we live in, because we understand everything has a place, but failure to see why MoS Annuals and the like are great I find funny.

I know that membership into the edm snob club involves not liking commercial or cheesy releases but I am bound to buy this album just to chuck it on when I have people in my car that like other types of music, because even they like this stuff, and its much more tolerable than rock or r&b music.

Good point and I agree with you here. I can appreciate cheese once on a yearly basis but I still feel this year's doesn't have as many memorable tracks as in years past.

Let's face it. The Annuals from the late 1990s were a true reflection of what you would have heard in the MoS over the past year. Now that logic and reason behind the Annual has been thrown out of the window. Would you really have heard DJ Sammy, Divine Inspiration or Angel City in the place itself .......god I hope not

Well, they realised that making commercial albums does make money, that's why they've changed over the last couple of years. And when you say "people", you're refering to the general music-listening public. What we're all complaining about is that "people" used to refer to us. But once MoS realised they could make more money by selling commercial rubbish, they started selling commercial rubbish.

If you want to go out and buy this compilation, then go right ahead. As long as you like what you're listening to it doesn't matter what everyone else thinks. But people dont diss cheese music so everyone thinks they're cool, they diss it because it's crap. If you like crap, good for you. Most here don't, and that's why they're winging about MoS. Because it puts out crap.

I can deal with the cheese, as long as its good cheese. You know the cheese that everyone says they hate but they know they listen to it sometimes.

But damn, they have been loading those CDs up with absolute eurodance crap too.

do u consider.... the "snobs" to be underground?

u know... commercialism is what killed rap... the rap u here now is NOT rap. It's mechanised, mass-produced shit, designed so that ordinary ears like it...

i recon that MOS like stuff will be the only thing left of trance in the future... adn that sux.
