He's talking about the Book by Frank Herbert, not the movie.

p.s. I realize that IMDB claims that there was some form of Dune movie in 1973, but evidence of such seems inconclusive. Furthermore, I'm sure the Dune you are speaking of is the Dune of 1984 with Kyle McLaughlin. More Deep!

The film you are refering to is a pretty shite film of a book called Dune (which was written before Star Wars and follows a similar theme

in my opinion

Robert Heinlein - Stranger in a Strange Land
Frank Herbert - Dune (Vladimir Harkonen = Sharon? )

are up there with 1984

The whole dune series is really great and I am not a huge sci-fi reader. I think the only sci-fi books I have read are:
2001
2010
Ender's Game
The Dune series (all of the ones written by Frank Herburt, none of the newer ones by his son)
Douglas Adams' "trilogy" (in five parts)

Douglas Adams is really quality stuff, though not sure if he belongs in the 1984/Brave New World category

PS - Brave New World was the best book I had to read in high school
