Doof rocks. I have both of his albums: It's "About Time" & "Lets Turn On"

anyways dj cinos you're the most poor guy around, since all u did earlier was to get people comment on your records if they were good or not. most people do know that themself, and therefore you are the less educated guy.

is there tension between Sweden and Finland ?

No. It's between the ignorant.

The point of my thread, however, was mostly to see what people think about Doof, and to recommend him to people who amazingly haven't heard him yet. It's not like talking about popular artists like him is an attempt to be "leet".

Nevertheless, assuming 'everybody' knows this guy of whom (wild guess) at least 3/4 of this board has probably never heard before is a bit strange to say the very least, isn't it?

And you calling it 'amazing' that people haven't heard of him, assuming he is 'popular', and calling people that haven't heard of him 'ignorant' (at least, I presume that's what you meant in your last post) doesn't really show any knowledge of the general tastes of the people over here either.

I think you know very well that the genre you obviously love the most isn't very well represented over here. Start acting like that instead of assuming things that aren't there, this does not really get you any further.

I can see that. But what the hell, people make topics about the most abstract artists and get replies, so I assume tranceaddicts indeed have vast knowledge of music. Apparently assuming is bad.

Oh well. I'll try to spread goa popularity here instead of assuming then.

Listened to it myself sometimes back in the days of the Immortality CDs (don't know if you've ever heard of them, example: http://www.discogs.com/release/98516 ), loved it back then but I can't seem to find any quality stuff lately. Enlighten me

The stuff I found just sounds awfully cheesy to me, could be due to the fact that either it IS cheesy shit (if so, I am waiting for recommendations along the lines of that CD mentioned above) or goa just does not appeal to me anymore (if so, I'm lost beyond help I suppose).

That CD seems quite nice. With risk of you already having heard all the following, I'll list them. Some of them I haven't heard, but they have huge popularity.

Hallucinogen - Twisted (WOW!), Lone Deranger (though this is more psy)
Transwave - Hypnorhythm EP (good), Helium (not heard), Phototropic (not heard)
Pleiadians - IFO, Family of light (not heard either)
Infinite Excursions 1 (chilled psy like Kicking Test, it's magnificient!)
Shpongle stuff. (but it goes without saying, doesn't it?)
Astral Projection (everything from Trust In Trance to Another World)
Infinity Project CD - Feeling Weird, Mystical Experiences (I don't like them... but they still keep growing on me. Second is chilled)
Trancemaster 12 (great tracks on this comp)
Doof - Let's turn on (as I said)
Infected Mushroom - the Gathering, Classical Mushroom, B.P.Empire

There are lots more, but my memory fails me. Also note that I'm not really an expert of goa.

Probably haven't heard shit of most of those recommendations, but I'll give them a listen. Have heard some Astral Projection though, and that's what I thought of as cheesy. If all of the stuff you've stated sounds like that to me, goa/psy probably just isn't my genre

I know that I'm looking for the somewhat darker stuff, which refrains from using uber-happy cheesy string melodies..

EDIT:
After having skipped through some of those recommendations, I can now safely declare that goa and psy are a no go for me. Have fun with it though, I'll go back to my techno and progressive.

No no, most of what I recommended isn't like that. All of Astral stuff isn't like that either.

But Hallucinogen's The Lone Deranger is really dark. I'll try to remember some more... dark stuff.

Oh, the first Infected Mushroom CD is very dark too. More later. But check out some or all of what I recommended thus far and tell me what of it you like.

That Lone Deranger CD sounded OKish, but no, me and goa/psy just isn't meant to be. Thanks for the recommendations though.

No no no no, don't give up yet. It grows on you. Most goa and psy you have to get used to first, especially if it's a long time since you listened to it the last time!
