We Love Beer This Much

How much can someone love beer? Just ask Phillip Bagie. He’s a 20-year-old Aborigine living on the farthest northern tip of Australia, Cape York, where alcohol is banned. And anyone who really wants liquor must complete a daring cross of a stretch of shark and crocodile infested water known jokingly as “the kitchen”. On the other side is a bar, on Thursday Island.

Bagie and his beer-thirsty buddies have been loading a dinghy and making the adventurous beer run for months. But in October, their trek was particularly exciting. With their bellies full of booze and their boat loaded with seven cartons of the brew and a bottle of rum, they headed home.

Only someone forgot to put the bung in the boat and within minutes it sank, leaving Bagie, his three pals and a female companion paddling for their lives in “the kitchen”.

“The tide kept pushing us out to sea, we huddled together with the four life jackets we had and kept talking,” Bagie said.

Rescuers were led to the boat about seven hour later, by way of the emergency beacon they retrieved from the sinking vessel. Undaunted by the near disaster, Bagie is already planning another trip to the bar for his birthday on Dec. 9.

“I want to celebrate my birthday properly and I'll go again,” he said. As if the possibility of death could keep them away.

I like how they call it "The Canadian Addiction Survey" , like all people who try drugs are considered addicts...another thing about surveys, is that people tend to exaggerate their use of drugs especially younger people...and whuts up with clumping haroin into the same category as LSD and speed? Now i can just imagine the chief of police getting a hold of this survey and preaching about how he needs more "resources" to help control this alarming drug epidemic that seems to be sweeping the nation

Now I'm not saying that I support any dr^g use, but is this study also taking into account the population growth? (I don't think so)

Also, I remember hearing that b4 1985, ecstasy was used by psychiatrists for patients that suffered clinical depression. Ecstasy got outlawed by papa bush and since then, some psychiatrists have been actively lobbying for thier right to provide ecstasy to those patients in need.

So are you saying it's dangerous b/c one doesn't know what's in the street level stuff or b/c the numbers look scary?

Personally for me, I don't put much on numbers unless they do a more elaborate comparison that mentions they've made adjustments for population growth.

And...Re cannibus, I think it's increased b/c ppl in Canada are now willing to admit using (b/c of all this talk of the relaxed rules) vs. admitting to it 3 yrs ago.....3 yrs ago trouble wud follow u and bust u.
Maybe I just see things differently but, growing up in New York City has shown me that Cdn's were scared about even being near p^t seeing as the cops are strict here....whereas in NYC the cops have better things to do than bust u for a small joint.
