Like I said, its their character, and you get good at making corrections. Mine are second hand 1650s, so have had a fair bit of use, and the fluctuations are really noticable sometimes, but new ones wouldn't be that bad. I don't know if there is any difference in motor between 1650s and 200s, if there is the 200s would be better.
The pitch alterations, yeah you gotta be slight, but once or twice when I make a big change (like 0.5 or more) it takes time for the motor to catch up, like I'll raise the pitch, and not until after will the platter actually spin faster, but thats probably a wear and tear thing.
But as I've said before, I knew i was buying entry level and from what I had read before i bought them I thought that I wouldn't be able to play at all, that's crap. They are better than i was expecting and not as bad as many people would have you believe. I think they are really good for a beginner, especially if they are not taking it seriously, have a limited budget (both of which are my excuses), or don't know if you'll like it.
