I've made some house and found it just as difficult and challenging as making trance. I've also made orchestral, pop, funk, jazz, swing, rock, dnb, happy hardcore, techno, goa, experimental/ambient and progressive, and none of them stood out as especially harder to make than any else. To be good at any kind of music, you need to invest time, talent, and a lot of knowledge, and to be bad at any kind of music it doesn't take a whole lot of either. There are good and bad songs everywhere, and naturally a lot of bad songs and just a couple of good ones, and this has nothing to do with how easy or hard it is to excel at a certain style.

It's inherently stupid to rank styles, especially since so much of the appeal of music lies in the expectation of the listener already. Don't think that because you don't place a lot of importance on, say, meaningful lyrics or virtuoso guitar solos, nobody else should.

To get back on topic: I don't use Reason

depends on how in depth you wanna do your house music. i suppose using reason is possible just the biggest problem i find with making house is getting a nice evolving bassline thats deep and isnt allways constant. i find house to be a little simple merely for the fact most house tracks dont have a evolving bassline and are rather short riffs put here and there and might evolve but mostly it doesnt. i guess its all what you consider house and what style of house you want to produce. id say its possible with reason but as i dont use reason i dont know. and mostly the house ive had made has been on the lines of holden style house which falls into a more of an experimental style that has lots of differnt types of synthesis which i dont think would be possible without the aid of vstis as reason instruments as far as i know arent cable of making that sound. ie. lots of fm synthesis and such, but allways try it i guess

I think you may be generalizing a bit too much right here... what are you basing this on?

Anyway, I produce both (progressive) trance and house using Reason 2.5 - feel free to PM me if I can help out in anyway. I don't have ICQ though.
