First off, if you get into any wrestling serious, get used to waiting around. A whole day(matches starting 9 am, finishing @ 9 PM) u can have as few as 2 matches..and u wait alot. Dont try to stay warm the entire time you will kill yourself. But during the matches, go all out. The ref should have to lift your arm cuz you are too tired to @ the end of the match. I know rules here, you had to have 30 minutes between matches..so if u get unlucky, snack on some chocolate about 3 minutes before the match, keep lotsa fluids, and get ready to cramp up. Its not pleasant, but if you are on defense, I want to see some guy hold me down when I get a leg cramp..not likely.
And really your partner does make you better. He should push you, but not kill you. passive defense drills work well on this. I got lucky. The U of C has many world Champs, and I got to train day in day out with 1 of em.
soo...getting points. well 5 point throws are a quick, but risky way. and Ive only ever seen 1. I was on the receiving end. That match was over before I knew it. You dont need 3 point take downs, or anything fancy. I worked my points on teh ground off of tilts like I said before. They worked for me, maybe not for you. Try leg rides, or leg locks/ankle locks. Maybe that will work for you. I cant tell.
About getting up. Its not always the best. If you can, just hold him and the ref should break it up, and let you stand again. I find getting off your stomach and elbows very hard, and I wont give tips on it...but if on you knees and hands, go for his grip like integrity said. Try to rock your torso back n forth a bit. Dont let him get comfortable down there where he gets time to think about what to do next. Make him react to whatever you are doing. Be an aggressive defender 95% of the time, and a ROCK the other 5% giving nothing.
Wrestling is aggressive, as im sure youve noticed by now. There are penalties for passivity(and it makes for a boring match to watch) BE THE AGGRESSOR. sure you will make mistakes, but hey, you will learn from it and do better next time. n And go out 140% all the time. its such a short bout that you will get lactic acid cramps, and thats good...shows you worked hard.
