I say you just arrange a payment plan with them, with some kind of contractual agreement that they will wipe your credit after less than the obligatory 7 years.

Or, if theyre still willing to accept the plan you mentioned above, GET IT IN WRITING. Or at least be smart and tape the phone conversation next time. Any evidence is good evidence.
