I recommend the same, but only after you realize that this is something you like and want to invest your $$ into. If you are just starting out, you might want go the cheaper route.. especially if that is all you can afford. Take the advise of people that have started out small and upgraded their equipment already as they have been in your shoes and had to climb the equipment ladder.

will you use ebay? if so i know you could get two technic mk2's for 500$ w/ shipping. you could skim on the mixer and headphones until you can upgrade, but like everyone else is saying its really best to save for quality tables. My buddy bought some cheapo ones and after using my technics and then trying his i couldnt bear it, its pretty frusturating.

But ebay is always a great option.

Good luck.

Behringers are terrible, do a search and see what comes up. Everyone who has one hates it or upgraded. In this thread, someone emailed Behringer asking what was wrong with his mixer and the support told him nothing was wrong, it's supposed to be like that. The starter mixer I got was the Numark DM-1002MKII for $100. It's really basic and the sound quality is terrible but it's good for getting started. They try to market it as a hip-hop mixer but if you try scratching the crossfader wears out fast. However, for just getting started with mixing, it has kills and eqs, so if youre looking for a cheap, entry-level mixer, it might be what you need. I've had mine for almost a year and now I'm looking to upgrade because I've definetly grown out of it. (My crossfader went bad a few weeks into attempting scratching though, when mixing I'd always mix with the linefaders.) There might be other good starter level mixers in this price range but I'm not too familiar with them.
