Wow this sucks

Imagine what the people in the audience must be going through right now. They must be devastated! Probably will require counseling or something.

man, thats horrible news

EDIT - Also, even if you never liked Pantera or don't know who Dimebag was, it's a sad day in the music business because tragedies like this should NEVER fucking occur.

yea my bf is a huge fan and he's devistated. he loves edm, but growing up, all he listened to was metallica and pantera and all those heavy metal bands. very sad. people are so f*cked these days. i mean seriously, get a damn life and step into reality. those crazed fans who live and breath music stars and cry and scream and hyperventalate at the sight of them... all those people need help in my opinion.

Is it only a matter of time before some trance DJ gets shot stateside because they wouldnt play the song a fan wanted? Or because they wouldn't sign a guy's tune? We all know how many times youve seen OMG Tiesto/Ferry/PVD/Armin/etc threads and posts. Would these people be devestated if the DJs didnt play for them? Is this part of a larger problem? What exactly causes shit like this to happen?

it might have to do with the genre and crowd it brings. usually death metal is appealing to "outcasts" or punk kids who seem starved for attention and lost. and we all obvoiusly know how music can affect people....in good and bad ways. so maybe it's that. there are always exceptions though. my boyfriend loved heavy metal in high school and played guitar and drums, but he was a popular jock...so who knows.

I kind of agree, but I think electronic music functions the same way. Often, its all about young and not feeling like you fit it with the popular culture and the target groups that advertisers lust for. If you feel this way, you try to find some alternative to the center to belong to. However, as popular culture swallows up all these choices, processes them, markets them, and moves on, it increasingly becomes difficult to identify any type of center from which to be "alternative" to. People are turning to countless numbers of methods, and extreme violenece is not the least used of these options...

Yeah, sorta strange how people can be Gods even after they're dead, eh?

It's as Mebot said, "tragedies like this should NEVER fucking occur." To rockstars or anyone, for that matter - absolutely including those who were killed at this incident.

I know the reason given was that the shooter blamed him for Pantera breaking up, but did they play violent music? I've really never listened to them, but what is it that made them so great - lyrically? technically? Let's focus on his life now.

Anyway, such a shame, these musicians are out there doing their thing and for some reason they got shot.

btw Pantera's Far beyond Driven still kicks ass! I also grew up with Metallica etc, i still love those guys. Its just sad.

I see the point, but cmon.

You can kill someone with nearly anything.

The difference is that guns are made solely for killing while knives, ropes, slabs of concrete, etc can serve other purposes. However, i dont feel like this is enouight ot outlaw a gun.

Additionally, the technology has been around for ages. If you outlaw it, not only do you lose money from companies making it, but the people who know how, or own the machines will go underground.

For me, its like drugs. Banning them will only work so much. The best scenario is proper education on ownership and use.
