and if i do recall you don't find zhang yimou's name anywhere on the front of the dvd box
ya i saw debates about it on the IMDB.com boards, it would have been nice if they did give zhang more credit but i honestly wouldnt have known about it till probably way later if i wasnt brought there.. sigh.. still great movie

btw, this movie was not that good. and there were too many fx in the fight scenes. i thought hero was a great movie. this was no where near close. not really worth the 2 1/2 hours.

i believe people did not like the too-much-love-story aspect of the movie? i guess it's a grind if u're not used to it

there were no special fx used in the actual 'fighting' sequences.. wires were def. used during the tree scene n what not but no computer generated fx were used in all the fight scenes... zhang yimou claims so himself. i do agree that hero was slightly better but i thoroughly enjoyed HOFD as well. Andy Lau was my fav. HK fim actor from back in the days.
btw, i thought zhang ziyi looked the best in the movie considering that she was in countless fims since crouching tiger]

I saw the movie last Saturday... the artistry was great and I especially loved the bamboo tree fight scene... much better choreographed than crouching tiger's weeping trees fight scene imo.
I got extremely annoyed by the numerous twists in the story though.

i finally saw this tonight.
the twists in the story were not annoying. the fact that the last hour was SO drawn out just killed any momentum from the plot twist that occurs at that point. i honestly just wanted the movie to end. now i understood why audiences in asia left the theaters laughing...

Media is a form of a country's culture and a means of communication from the government, depending on the nature of the governing body. I saw this movie a few weeks ago and I think it's pretty similar to Hero, which is known to be biased towards glorifying the Chinese Communist Party. There is still a ways to go ideologically, in my opinion, but it was an insightful movie, nonetheless.
Why do asian films have the most depression endings
