You can beatmatch hip hop Ive practiced it and got better, its still tough. You have to play a set of traxx that are of similar bpms, a bit of a difference is fine. Its alot easier with cdjs because you dont have to recue the vinly. On a cdj you just start your beatmatchin, and if you get lost with the beats, tap the cue button and play it again on the next phrase. As long as you can get the traxx beatmatched for about 16 beats, than you are good to go. Usually hip hop songs have like an intro of just a beat with maybe someone shouting out some things. You just play that with the fader in the middle ontop of the other track while its in its outro phase. Its not too hard to mix them, the hard part is finding tracks to mix and sounding alright. If you are still confused pm me and i can let you hear a sample of what i am talking about.

Off topic rant: I hate when people ask me to play some rap and/or scratch, and even worse is when a record is playing and they just walk up and start scratching. AHHHHH. Drunk girls...as much as I love them, can be verrrry annoying.

Some friends and I are going to make shirts that say "I don't spin rap" to try to partially solve this problem.

when I dj'ed with my old buddy we would mix an hour rap set. I always like to cue up the cd at around the some vocals and loop it over a few times....then cut it over. it was kinda fun getting creative in ways to mix the songs together. just practice.

Very insightful.

If you are learning to mix hip-hop, I would recommend practising using the instrumental versions of different songs as that will make it easier to learn how to beatmatch at such a lower BPM. It is key to learn/know the structure of all the songs you are going to mix (how many bars is the intro, when the vocals kick in, when the chorus starts, etc.).
