I think this is pretty natural. I moved to Montreal 6 months ago and haven't even setup my second turntable here yet =P

For production, I tend to not actually do it that regularly on account of work and my addiction to World of Warcraft (=P) so I find that when I do sit down at it once or twice a week that I have a ton of ideas and get a lot done.

I think the biggest problem is finding the inspiration to create music. Sometimes you will see something, hear something, feel something, and be moved to just pour out your emotions in musical form. Since I am a visual artist as well, this has always come naturally to me, but of course there are times where I just don't have any real inspiration. I think the worst thing you can do is force yourself to make a piece of art (visual or musical), because you will never be satisfied with the result.

Over the past year I went about 6 or 7 months where I only made 1 decent track. After getting some new found inspiration in November, I have made about 4 new tracks (about 1 per week). And listening to these new tracks, I can tell immediately that they have improved alot over my old work.

I feel the same way, I've been producing for about a year and a half, and the only thing I've seen with progression is my programming ability with VSTis, it either I create a fat sound but no good melody, or if i'm remixing, the sound is muddy, over-compressed or under-compressed, EQing, blah blah blah etc... but i'm going to keep trying, if I don't get it right soon I just might give up.
