I think I got tired of Family Guy because I have all of the DVDs. I'm sure the same will happen with Futurama, but for now it's my favorite of all the cartoons.

The two episodes that stick out in my mind as the best are the one where Fry buys 100 cups of coffee with his government refund and then the one where Bender becomes human and eats himself to death. Then when he dies he starts making "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" noises, so Fry thinks he's alive but the professor tells him it's actually gas escaping from his fat folds. Hahahahaha. They need to show those two episodes more on TV.

yeah i've been trying to place it, what makes it weird
they always have things that look like they're gonna be a plot cliche, but then what would really happen in real life happens even though you're not expecting it
like they'll be heading towards the sun and steering's broken and fry would say something along the lines of 'oh no, the steering's broken, thank god we brought a backup steering wheel just in case, and i think we might just have time to install it and not die a fiery death!'
and then leela would just be like 'yeah actually you forgot that fry, i think we're screwed'
and while its what makes sense, that never actually happens in tv

edit: and one of my favorite quotes so far, from the episode where they go to the planet where all the people are made of liquid and fry drinks the emporer and becomes emporer, and he's explaining to leela that he doesn't ever plan ahead, cause its not actually a good thing:

"its just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus: all year long, the grasshopper kepy burying acorns for winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched tv. But then the winter came and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns, and also he got a racecar!"

Love 'em both...

...but I must say, the "unseen episode" of Family Guy they showed on Fox this past week was absolutely awesome...walking the thin line that they do, it was bloody brilliant.

"OMG Optimus Prime is a Jew!!!!"

I laughed a good 20 minutes just hearing/seeing that part alone

I think we're both right - I have changed, my sense of humor has changed, but the Simpsons these days are very cookie-cutter. It had to evolve to stay alive, you're right, but that was applicable to seasons 3-5 or so. Groening wanted to axe the show years ago, but Fox said "no way" and instead of passing the helm onto someone else (like he knew Fox would do if he didn't comply) he continues to work on it even though he doesn't really want to, and I think it shows.

It's changed. I have changed as well, but I see episodes from years ago that I've never seen before (very rarely though) and they are just way funnier - much better writers. It used to be satirical...now it's just slapstick saccharine.

But enough about that!

Futurama is great.

Gotta love adult swim... 1:00-2:00am, Family Guy and Futurama, every week night. If I'm not otherwise occupied, that's where it's at.

Thank god for cartoons.
