4. The Scumfrog at the Guvernment, Aug.
If you don't know who this guy is, and you like dirrrrty house, then get some of his stuff. He'd made his Toronto Debut, at Boa earlier in the year and because his set was so rediculous the Guvernment booked hi for August. The only regret I have about this night was that it was in the guvernment. An interactive, animated DJ like him should not be put up in a mile high DJ booth like at the guv. That being said, he still layed down a crazy extended set where he looped, sampled, and even used his own live vocals o his tracks. Think Timo Maas meets Steve Lawler and you'll get an idea what it sounded like.
3. Lawler at System Soundbar, March
Lawler killed it. I was home from school for about 12 hours, yet I never went home. This guy is king, and Toronto loves him. Come back soon, Mr. Lawler, you're due!!
2. CREAM in Montreal Sept. 5
Me and a small group of TOTA's went to Montreal for a weekend to cap off our summer partying, and I couldn't have thought of a better way to do it. Sun Sept 5th, was more than just the main party, at about 1pm in the afternoon, we went to a park which overlooked the city skyline for an afternoon outdoor jam with Misstress Barbara. The vibe at the party was incredible, people from the ages of 2[?!?!] to 40 were all out having a blast to some top crazy house to deep tribal. At some point around 8:30, running back to the hotel room for food and a shower, to make sure we got to CREAM on-time. Desyn Masiello layed down a deep tribal set, turned me onto his style that night. Digweed followed, 3 and a half hours of abstract progressive, electro and house. And we all know what Digweed can do. Sander Klienenberg then took it to another level, with the highlight set of the night, had all 12,000 of us going nuts in the hockey arena. Ferry Corsten, played the standard trance set, and Deep Dish closed down the night by playing an energy filled set reminiscent of their previous essential mix from the week prior. By the end, it had worked out to me dancing and partying for 22 hours in a 24 hour period. That's the making of a very good weekend...
1. Danny Tenaglia on Canada Day
Without a doubt, one of my top 3 parties of all time. What better way to celebrate your nation's b-day than partying with a legend? The hype for that party was insane, he'd not set foot in our fair city since a beloved club 'industy' had closed down, and the club he was now booked at [boa] has arguably the best sound system in the western hemisphere, along with a reputation of throwing quite insane parties. 14.5 hours of top notch house music, where danny was going insane with the crowd, coming out to talk to us, jumping on the mic asking us what we wanted to hear, using some high powered flashlights to create his own 'mood lighting', and who could forget Danny making us all sing sketchiest version of 'Oh Canada' at some time around noon.
