Hmm.. very interesting.

the pitch adjust is only 6.3% on brand new tech12s? are you sure?
and I can't be positive about the auto return, but I don't think techs do that either. it will run right onto the label if you let it.
some records have a groove to keep it from doing that.

as for straight tone arm, I've heard it keep the needle from skipping, and I've heard it makes it skip.. I don't know either way.

one thing I do know is that a straight tonearm will wear out your records faster. Hip Hop DJs like em for scratching, and obviously don't mind having to buy new records, but for trance mixing, I'd like to keep them sounding their best.

which vestax are you talking about? the new ones, with a plastic base?

I'm going to buy decks, and I am pretty much set on tech12s. for one thing, some DJs have had them for 20 years, and they still work great. Any club or rave that you go to is going to have techs, so you damn well better know how to use them.

Vestax decks, don't have ANY long term testing, because they haven't been used that long.

Cool

6.3% pa is correct, even on the m3ds. i dont know about the m3ds but generally on technics the autoresturn is there, it happened to me making a mix tape at my friends, it lifted off at the end of atlantis ita - the good land just as the mix was building in the direction of gouryella - walhalla sounding really bad. about the skipping, it definately does help, and about wearing out records, as far as i know it doesnt make a difference, its the weight of the tone-arm, the cartridges and the stylus that make a difference. hip-hop djs prefer the vestax because of the skipping reduction. and im talking about the pdx2000, (see vestax website http://www.vestax.co.uk/flash/pdx2000.htm). im sure vestax will stand up to the test of time, and im not trying to tell people technics are shit, because they are gr8, and 90% of clubs use them, although vestax have a growing larger section of the market, even though they are slightly more expensive. i just suggest you try both before you buy.

hmm...

so technics has been lying to hundreds of thousands of DJs for 20 years that the pitch control is 8% when it's really 6.3%?

I'm finding that tough to swallow.

I will definitely try out the Vestax before I buy my tech12s.

I tried out some Stanton STR8-80s before, didn't like em, not enough power. it was cool that they spun backwards though, I wish techs did that. I've heard that the STR8-100s have more power than tech12s, and pitch control up to 25%

SL1200 MKII will not have the problems like boy_luke_y2k had when you buy the right element/stylus.
I first had Stanton 500 which is cheap and okay but since I have the 680 I know it makes a big difference.

Straight tonearms are primarily for scratching..now vestax also has another new decks out(not the PDX2000) that has a curved tonearm(better fro trance) the other one is the pdx-8000 Its supposed to be nicer...but I dunno, ill stick with Technics. Vestax can still make my mixer, but not my tables.

Tho if this werent blazing red it might be less of an eyesore

About the carts/stylus, I had Orfoton Concordes Blue, with Elliptical stylus, I did have technics, I like them, they are proven workhorses but there is less control than the Vestax and I am happy I made the switch, I haven't seen the PDX8000 but they sound okay. I just stick to my point of try before you buy. Don't let rumours and reputation influence your decision too much. I had the Technics for about a month and got an upgrade by selling my roland mixer and getting complete Vestax system.

Silly me, I've seen these before, I got the catalogue, and they look very nice decks, £850 a piece though, its a bit steep. I think the red puts you off more than anything else, I'm happy with mine.

WOW!!!
that PDX8000 is pretty ugly (the color) but other then that, i wouldn't mind having one...
i was considering to buy technics(still am) in the next 5 months...
i still think i'll go for them, maybe any where else in the world the diference (in the price) isn't that much...
but here in Israel as far as i know the prices are in the sky!!!
so i'll either find some kinda cheap good technics (vestax are also welcome) or i'll import...

i'm a newbe to this stuff (TTs) so where should i start?

Thanks DjTS-NeXiLe, its just my opinion and a few facts of course, I just suggest you try before you buy, as I've had both TT's I do suggest Vestax though.
