but in the meantime does anyone know anything about the "SoundMAX Integrated Audio" soundcard? It came with my computer, I think I'd have to have a line-in to get the music to play through my computer and to record to my computer also (I'd also be interested in recording my mixes since I'm just starting, and it'll give me something to listen to on the way to class for practice and stuff).

Also can anyone give me some price-feasible recommendations on speakers + amplifier or active monitors? (btw, monitors are essentially just speakers and amp in one right?) thanks.

get two(one for being able to hear from the comp and one for recording, [maybe you dont even need two]) rca to soundcard (dont remember the type). i would get the golden one which have better sound quallity with no losses. they are not expencive 4pounds maybe.

Speakers are usually something that is necessary to be able to mix well. If you have to play in a club one day, and you've never mixed through speakers, you are going to have a very hard time mixing...

Any speakers will do for now, you can always buy some better speakers later on.

not completely true. i used to rely on one ear monitoring, till i was forced to mix without monitors at all, and a mixer with no split cue. i had to settle using the PFL/PGM fader gradually. i spent about a week like this, mixing heavily, at least 5 hours a day.

next time i got to use monitors, it was A LOT easier. my skills were a lot better because of that week.

anyways, to me, monitors (aside from using one ear monitoring, which isn't really indispensable in a bedroom) are just a commodity for when you want to take your phones off and listen to the "live music. either way, i've been one to dance whilst wearing my phones when i have no monitors, heh.

Well, you are right. But since he is mixing in his bedroom, he probably won't have a 10+ kW speakersystem installed, and that kinda makes monitors essential...

+1. I don't have any speakers or an amp, thats why I asked if I should buy monitors instead (since speakers + amp installed, right?).

4 pounds each? for a sound card I could use to record with, and for one for hearing? Really?

Really! But only if you call now!

No seriously, 4 pounds for a soundcard is way too cheap if you want something decent. I would recommend buying something at around 20 or 30 pounds. The sound-quality will be much better.

Alright, I did think that sounded too good to be true :P I'll look into spending up to $50 on one, but I still want monitors or amp + speakers, suggestions on monitors or amp + speakers combo?

Hmmm, well I just sold a few things and got a bunch of money for xmas, plus I transferred one of my bank accounts at home to my bank account here, so I got more money to throw around. I'd probably be willing to spend a couple hundred dollars (U.S. dollars) if anyone has any other suggestions on monitors, or amplifier + speakers. ?

edit: also...totally unrelated, but is the only difference between the technic 1200 m3d and mk2 / other models the unhingeable dust covers on the m3ds and the no lock at 0 for pitch?
