Its not "assassin de la police",
its " thats the sound of tha police", a sample from an old song made by KRS-One.

The best french rap album in my opinion is : Iam - L'école du micro d'argent

sEpH is right, it's a sample from KRS-One, aswell as a sample from Supreme NTM.

Supreme NTM is a dope ass group from France, really good stuff.

About the movie La Haine, I found something out really neat. If you've seen it, you'll remember when Cut Killer was mixing in the projects out a window. They used a remote control helicopter to film, which made it appear as if the camera was floating. Great use of primitive technology. Really good movie. Mathieu Kassovitz is a real good director. Also, a bad-ass oldskool track they featured in the movie was Zapp and Roger - More Bounce To The Ounce. It was featured during a scene where they were in the lobby of a housing project and there was a boombox going and some kids were breakdancing really good. Fucking awsome movie. The French hiphop scene is so pure, unlike the commercial American bullshit.

NIQUE LA POLICE!

i would make a correction: The French hiphop scene WAS so pure, unlike the commercial American bullshit.
I went to France this summer and on their "rap/r&b" radio Station (Skyrock) they've only played VERY commercial shits like Usher, Black eyed peas, Beyonce etc.. and their french rap was like some cheesy/sucky french R and B...

IMO french rap is dead (for some years!)

well most groups you guys are mentionning are what would be considered commercial now.

but it's not to discredit the fact that yes they've done great things like IAM, Mc Solaar ( he was a master at working samples ), Assassin ( they're insane in the studio laying a 32 track of samples mix )

It's kinda sucky right now and very commercial no doubt.

Well, you'll have commericla music everywhere, it's what kids want. That dosent neccessicarly mean the music is dead. I'm sure theres thousands of MC's and DJ's mixing up parties, battling, and just rhyming for fun, and not caring about money. You're right about the music turning somewhat commerical, look at Cut Killer's mixes, nothing but commercial r'n b and rap, but hes still a great DJ and turntablist, despite what he plays. The is only dead if you look at the commercial side of it. Compare American MTV shit to say a very underground independant label like Definitive Jux, allthough they're getting commercial. If you pay attention to the mainstream, it's all you're gunna hear.
