just choose record, window pops up then choose your audio device than hit record again on the new window. it finds the input by it self.

I just tried again and still no luck. IDK what the deal is. Looking at those pictures that someone posted...my mixer is different...it doesn't let me "select" a channel...in place of that is a "mute" box to check..could that be the problem?

NO, THE PROBLEM IS YOU NOT CLICKING OPTIONS FROM YOUR VOLUME MIXER AND SELECTING PROPERTIES AND SELECTING ADJUST AUDIO FOR RECORDING ! ONCE AGAIN... VOLUME CONTROL (SOUND MIXER)--> OPTIONS --> PROPERTIES --> ADJUST FOR RECORDING

Do you have a Soundblaster Audigy Platnum or Live Platnum that gave you the front panel box? If so, you might need to go into its own control panel to adjust the items there. When I was using my Live Platnum, I was having trouble getting the front panel RCA's to work right.
