I think prog took a huge leap this year...considering the big dj's have been playing more and more of it. I miss the old ways...beautiful melodies, fast beats, great synths...

i think it was the year of camp trance...i.e. records on anjunabeats, tracks with american male vocalists (ala jump the next train) and more techy stuff

i predict that trance will get bigger and better in 2005

I disagree. I think prog went backwards this year. Absolutely nothing new in sound and a lor of vey boring productions, except for a few of course.

This was THE year of electro...no doubt in my mind. It was the only genre that sounded really really fresh song after song.

As for trance, well...it wasn't the best year but it still gave us a chance to listen to great productions by Filo & Peri and Robert Nickson and a much-needed evolution in the sound of Gabriel & Dresden.

Unfortunately 2004 was the year of hip-hop and rap, just like 2003, 2002, 2001 & 2000. In trance/progressive, i think there has been a change from supersaws and other complex synths to simple bleepy ppk'ish sine sounds (whiteroom, markus schulz, ozgur can and all the other progressive producers). It was nice and fresh in the beginning, but now its becoming boring again. Back to the supersynth ages!

It surely was the year of McProg, or American-Prog

I have mixed feelings about 2004.
It was as pointed out earlier, DEFINITELY the year of the re-makes. Sadly, most of them were poor efforts. Perhaps the only decent remake would be the remake of Synaesthesia and a couple of In Silence mixes.Even then, only the Mesh and Ferry remixes did it for me.

On a negative note, I would call it the year of 'MASS PRODUCTION'. The amount of tunes churned out this year was incredible. Sadly, quantity superceded quality by a significant margin. The quality bit was quality indeed.

On a more convincing note, I would call it a very good year for tech-trance. Some mint tunes have been released this year.

I didn't like Ferry's mix of Synaesthesia as much as the original, at all. Mud Blood's "Flaming June '04" was a good hard mix, and Agnelli and Nelson made a pretty good mix of Armin's "Blue Fear", IMO.

How could you say that about trance if you, clearly, haven't been following it? You must know something to understand how much it sucks or how much it rocks.

As for me, i think it was chill vocal trance that really stood out this year.

Those are some top vocal tunes. Notice i didnt put Jump the Next Train, cause, well, i dislike it. But nontheless, it was also a hit this year.
