I saw someone touch upon this before - all you need is virtualdj and a time-coded vinyl? no hardware like a scratchamp or something equivalent?

You need a soundcard too. Alot of people are using the Maya USB 44.

I use the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 but my setup isn't portable.

For a home user with a tower PC it's better (and cheaper) to use a PCI sound card rather than USB right?

Thanks for all the mixing/info tips and comments guys. Now if I get say an M-Audio 2496 Audiophile or an equivalent, would the sound quality for CD/high quality mp3 playback be as good as a sb audigy 2 for example? I reckon it should be better, but just want to confirm.

As for the mixing, I'm slowly getting it. Before, I want playing too much we the eqs and it sounded like I was mixing like a radio station (which is very gay!) Now I'm starting to use eqs and slowly bringing in the bass etc. You really have to konw the songs and where the basslines hit in and where the breakdowns are. One more question, you guys speak of bar matching. Is that to match the bars so they start and end togoether and so that the crashes for example strike at the same time? Is it very fundamental to bar match? (like do pro djs always bar match while mixing trance?)

Thanks once again everyone!

The audiophile is better than the SBAudigy2. All pro DJs bar match. Alot of people call it phrase matching.

you still have aways to go. in the first 2 mixes, the beat matching is a little off, still needs tweaking, and you need to use the EQs more, specifically bring down the bass EQ of the incoming track while mixing in, this will make it seem much less obvious.

that said, the third mix (out of southern sun) was actually a pretty good one.

the 4th mix slips a little, but you managed to kick in the incoming track at the right time so that it's not too noticeable.

all in all, keep trying, but pretty good for a start!

Thanks man, really appreciate it. Now that I know where my wrongs/rights are I'll keep on practicing. I think I also need to work on my track selection. The last one was pretty lame
