... interesting.

I might be able to pull this off the same way I pulled off going to Zen Fest, and the Voodoo Music Fest.

Especially if I go with my palls..

I'm getting $169 from SAT>>Miami. Damn cheap.

Still $370 from Austin>>Miami. Debating buying a tix, or hoping that Austin price goes down. Is San Antonio having a fare war?

Where are you staying? What rate did you get?

Where'd you see $169 ? Oh well, I'm just glad I didn't have to end up paying close to $300 like I usually do. I've got hotel reservation at Days Inn 21st and Collins.$160/nite (Some of my gf are looking into other hotels a little closer to the action tho.) It's not bad though, have stayed there before. I thought about doing Hotwire or Priceline, but I just don't want to roll the dice like that...

I'm thinking about driving all the way to Miami.

Anyone from Austin/Houston might be interested in carpooling? It should be cheaper than flying.

that's about 20hr drive. So basically 2 days on the road.
Gonna be too much time missing school. $185 isn't bad for round trip to miami.

if you know about how much it would be in gas money (100% willing to split the cost equally) I might be able to afford it. Its a long drive...but Ive never been to Ultra/WMC and a plane ticket will send me into chapter 11

Because I am a big geek:

Let's assume the car gets 30 miles per gallon, & gas costs $1.80/gallon. Your cost of travelling a mile is 6 cents.

Houston>>Miami is approximatelly 1225 miles, or 2450 miles total.

Gas cost ~ $147 total. If Pete & Matt split that, that's $74 each. If they find a 3rd or even 4th passenger, cost goes down to $49 or $37 each.

As Daydreamer points out, this does not account for the lost wages/productivity for the time spent on the road (a minimum of one day each way). If you're employed, and your daily wage is $75, add $150 to account for missing 2 days work

So...with 2 riders, cost for driving == $225
With 4 in the car, cost for driving == $187 (roughly equivalent to a $180 airfare)

Unaccounted for is where (if anywhere) you'll stay on the way--you could start at 5 AM, & drive all day, arriving at 1 AM the next day---that's a whole bunch of driving.

Driving doesn't really seem to save much money if you're employed. If you're not employed with more time than money, it does save money as long as there's more than just the driver in the car.

This is assuming the driver is nice & splits the gas money evenly, without citing the "Ass, grass, or Gas...noone rides for free" rule & makes the passenger pick up the gas to makeup for the wear & tear on the car itself.
