in four sections. House/techno, drum and bass, ambient/idm, experimental/post-rock/everything else. Within those sections alphabetically by artist, chronologically within artist.

hrmm...

by genre.. house, trance...

and for now, those that mix well go up front, those that dont go in back... occasionally some from the back move up to the front as my skill increases.

I sort my vinyl by genre trance/psy/tech house/french house. When I buy new records I analyze them and write down information about every track in my little book. I write down the BPM, Sub-Genres(Tech,Psy,dark,epic), anything that stands out (synth lines, vocals, bass riffs) and finally I rate every track 1-4stars. This way I can find that dark-tech track with a low bass riff that I want in my set easily. NOTE: I lost my short term memory in college. Also note: if you don't have a short term memory it is very hard to have a long term memory. Now what was I doing again...

In my record bay I catalogue by bpm and each bpm is sorted by key. The other records are just random.

I go by genre right now but, I've only got about 80 records. I can see that as my collection gets larger I'll have to make some adjustments to that system though.

I have 4 crates one with breaks, one with harder/darker NRG and one with happier stuff. The last one has my old albums and some jungle, and house.

There really isnt an order though. I for some reason can find what Im looking for when playing.
