ohh that is so cute .. I have a similar story, when I was younger I used to deliver flyers for a pizzeria around the hood, well it included alot of walking, so one day there was a mild storm that hit the city and did break couple of trees here and there but nothing major, so I was doing my routine walking from house to house when a little baby squirrel started following me , and everytime I stopped it would sit on my shoe , which were old rodman converse basketball shoes
so I guess, its mother was lost or killed, I don't know, so it started following the next best resembling thing, kinda like that hippo ..

Heh, cute story.
However, rocky mountain grey squirrels are whole a different rodent.
We were once camping in the mountains, and apparently we'd set up camp right in the middle of a colony of grey squirrels - they would grab medium-sized pinecones and rocks, climb 50 feet up into their trees, then drop the rocks and pinecones on us - it was harassment! Nobody got hurt, as we promptly set up a large tarp to protect our heads, but it was a real problem.
I once came across what seemed to be a male - I was walking around a corner and he was just waiting for me on a branch - peering into me. I stared him down for a minute, then crouched to pick up a rock, just to scare him away. I purposefull threw the rock towards to ground, just the distract him, in hopes that he would scamper off, but instead, he lunged off the branch and started running full-speed towards me - it was unreal! I didn't think squirrels could be that aggressive, but I guess I'm used to skiddish, complacent, suburban squirrels. As I was running away in full-panic, I looked over my shoulder to see if he was still after me. He ran for a few seconds, then scuttled off into the trees again - guess he realized who the real man was!
