I am wondering form a logistical standpoint however at what cost does contributing vast amount of money become ineffective.

I'm thinking the International Red Cross Disaster Relief Agency probably went from a one billion dollar organization to a 10-100 billion dollar organization in a matter of two weeks. I don't know how any operations, whether a business or a non-profit can cope with such a growth rate.

That money is being spread out and used in the region to buy food stuffs from local producers in unaffected areas. Given the massive amount of devastation I am sure the money isn't getting bottlenecked. Especially since it is being spread to other organizations with certain specialties as well.

Yeah I saw it on tv, the action was made by radio and tv stations yesterday. It's a good action to help the victims of the tsunami.
I have heard that Saoudi Arabia collect 250 million in one day.

Although you've got a point, there's no need to be that harsh.

Don't get me wrong, I am really glad to see all these people helping, but I admit that it does puzzle me - why weren't similar campaigns organised during some of those bloody African wars in Uganda and Congo, for example?

What I find even weirder is Brazil. We are also helping the victims by offering food, medicine and huge amounts of money, even though we've got probably millions here who would need this help as well. Yet they seem to get none of it.

Despite of these critics: nice move

TSUNAMI DEBT SUSPENSION

Most of the world's leading finance ministers have agreed to suspend debt repayments from countries reeling from the effects of the Boxing Day tsunami.

Chancellor Gordon Brown said the G7, the gathering of the seven biggest industrial nations, would seek agreement from all creditors at a meeting of the Paris Club next week.

A statement from the G7 said the debt repayment freeze was voluntary for the nations hit by the disaster.

"We would not expect debt payments from affected countries that request it until the World Bank and IMF have completed a full needs assessment of their reconstruction and financing requirements, recognising that some countries may be unable to make debt payments," said the statement.

"We will work, within the Paris Club, with other creditors to achieve a consensus for this approach," the statement said.

Mr Brown said: "Depending on the conclusions of the needs assessments, I believe that the G7 and Paris Club must also stand ready to consider all options for further assistance."

The G7 comprises the United States, Japan, Germany, Britain, France, Italy and Canada.

they should cancel it completely

It should be, that would be the most successful way of raising the most money.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't financial aid to these countries have a record of falling into all the wrong hands and thus never achieving half the good that it was meant to do? Either way, it is easier to help people that just got their lives torn away by a tidal wave than people living in an oppressed society with corruption and violence everywhere you look. Doesn't mean that we should stop trying to help, but I think it explains the massive initiative to this case somewhat. This time the donators can actually be sure that it'll do something good.

Also, don't forget the fact that countries all over the world have people of their own that were involved in this disaster.

The more money thrown at the tsunami victims, the more money which will be diverted by everyone in the food chain, including terrorists. Last time I checked, no one's in charge of the Relief effort.
