This is gonna sound kinda mad, and I don't think I could do it, but would it be possible to set something up with my website and send a broadcast to it, then have people tune into my website server to listen, so basically I have 1 stream come out of my computer, goto my website server and then have it host it and people tune into the broadcast from there, therefor uses there bandwidth and not mine, I have 200gb a month of bandwidth, would be nice to use it for a stream and be able to have 30+ people tune in for afew hours each month.

That's how we do it @ afterhoursdjs.org.. kinda. The djs connect via winamp to our webserver running shoutcast server which then connects to our broadcast server. the problem you will have though is getting 30 people to tune in if you dont have a 24/7 stream. If you do manage to get 30 people connected and you are running at 128kbps, you will be doing about 4Mbps or approx 512KBps / approx 30MB per minute / approx 1.8GB per hour (if my math is correct).

Via shoutcast server, you can be listed on shoutcast, but to be listed on some of the other items (such as itunes), most require you to be 24/7

Thanks for the info man, I don't want to do a 24/7 show, but I want something setup so I can have more than like 8 people tune in, plus I might do video broadcasts so the extra bandwidth will come in handy, do you know of anywhere I could check on how to set something like that up?

mediacast1.net offers affordable stream hosting.. that's who I use

I looked long and hard and ended up with these guys. It's alot more affordable than renting/colo'ing a server, and they support ya.

Dual Xeon on a OC3 w/ IceCast2.. cant bitch!

... and yes, you all forgot IceCast2. It's like shoutcast, but is totally open source and supports OGGVorbis (I hate MP3)

For just audio broadcasts shoutcast and winamp are undoubtably the best and pretty easy to use once its set up the first time plus its free. As for video I looked into this and it seemed alot of hard work. You will have to pay a fee to get a decent server, and if like me you are already paying for webhosting its just more bills.

What I ended up doing was pre recording my mixes with my web cam and then just uploading them to my webspace for dl, this way you can control the file size and if yr bandwith is getting hammered you can just take the mix down.

Never thought about using my host as a server, didn't know this was possible.
