I wish i could say that i don't upgrade my software regularly, but when you're an IT manager u have to keep everything current on servers and workstations because ultimately they work out various bugs and functionality issues, now when it comes to napster, it seems to me the added functionality is actually to implement their future plans without letting users know...in other words shady...

the reason why you shouldnt upgrade to any version higher than beta 7 is pretty simple napster use a trojan backdoor on your computer they always have well since about beta 5, its the auto upgrade bit any program that can start auto upgrading is a trojan, you dont have a choice if they start it, and although some people say you can still use napigator to connect to opennap servers with the newer versions, it is virtually impossible.
from beta 8 onwards napster install on your comp 2 files,
one called vmp3.nvm and the other vwma.nvm these are like copyright files making napster totally in the clear if you get caught for sharing copyrighted files, it wont or its hard to down grade without these files.

and like Gek says people like swamper etc. having these kind of sites then good music will still be available.

Shame / Disagreement

At first I thought they were just going to charge u like once a month and u'd be able to download all the songs still. But then I heard that only certain labels were gonna put their artists songs on there and now it completly sucks. Hopefully alot of trance artists are cool with the idea of MP3s, because w/o trance on Napster it's gonna suck big time.

Geez I got no tech knowledge what so ever so I didn't understand some of the posts but about napster, it sux what's gonna happen!!! I dun think I'd want anything from BMG or the other crappy labels out there...

There should be a napster just for electronic music, if all the good labels came together and if we did have to pay a fair and reasonable and low price, it would be win-win for both the peepz who listen to music and for the ones who make it (we end up paying too much for cds and the stores anyhow, it should end up cheaper if we could have just the music)... anyways it's gonna suck when napster goes down, that's when us tranceaddicts really gotta stick together...

latez...

question

Do people here actually get MOST of their trance from napster? cause i certainly don't. i couldnt tell you how many times nobody on napster has had stuff i am looking for. i only use napster to get popular music - and in response to the comment about an electronic music napster, that wouldn't be all that much better, cause then it would just be commercial pop trance or whatever, a lot of good that would do us. i suggest everyone concerned with this look into these:
hotline, gnutella, aimster, and of course our reliable tranceaddict.com, cause napster is done, and it has been for awhile now. peace.

Beta 8 sucks!!

I could care less about paying a fee as long as I still got the music I'm getting now. You can't just walk into any music store and get the trance that we talk about on this forum. It's not about the money with me, it's about the music that I wouldn't have access to anymore.

Also, Napster 2.0 Beta 8 sucks!!! I upgraded from Beta 7 and I wish I hadn't. It always messes up the sound on my comp and the internal player is fucked up too. Is there any way that I can 'down'grade back to Beta 7??

I agree with kristineclub, I wouldn't mind paying as long as it's for good music... napster started off with commercial stuff but now has lots of what I look for.. maybe I listen to all commercial who knows!!! Whatever tho, I think that it maybe hard to find a good solution but it's worth trying...

Well time for me to add my $.02 if anyone cares

I don't give a rats ass what happens to napster or any other file sharing mediums for that matter... right now is a big transitional period, and the outcome won't depend on which point-to-point sharing software we can or do use. Even if napster, audiogalaxy, scour (once its up again), gnutella, etc all were shut down, we could still go back to good old FTP and IRC I'm just gonna sit back and watch until we have a plan that makes (most) artists and music listeners happy. Note that making record companies happy isnt that important :P But nonetheless I'm sure their unpleasantness will stick around for some time.

I don't have a problem with paying for music, despite the fact that I haven't paid for 90% of what I have on my hd and on cd In fact, I think my music-buying-karma will be realigned once I get tables and start buying expensive vinyl :P What I do have a problem with is paying $14 to a record company and $1 to an artist when buying a cd. So when napster becomes subscription based, I highly doubt I'll pay, and if I do, only when I KNOW artists are getting at least a 50% or so cut.

BTW check out http://www.everything2.org/index.pl...tnode_id=456282... something called the street performers protocol, good idea IMHO.

Idea audiogalaxy / satelite

Fuck napster here comes audiogalaxy

Audiogalaxy Satellite is a real-time transaction-based file-sharing system for MP3 users. This program uses a Web-based interface to let users search for artists, tracks, and albums and download the tracks onto their hard drives. The client program is small and simple, designed for minimal CPU and memory resources. Satellite automatically selects the closest user with the file you want, reducing external bandwidth usage. Files currently offline can also be selected for download, and once somebody who has the file comes online, your transfer will begin. If your download is interrupted, the Satellite Auto-Resume function will find an alternate users with the same file and complete the download.

You know what this all means!! NO more transfer errors!! W000TAGE!! thats fckng amazing ive been using this program for like a month now and i think its almost as good as napster. But in the future when we have to pay for napster and the limited amount of mp3s....Audiogalaxy will be better!!

Also a very good thing besides no more transfer errors is that there are soooo many users! its unbelievable.

check it out.... http://www.audiogalaxy.com
its kinda hard to start.... but eventually it will kick your ass!!!!

Have fun now :-)
