Well time for me to add my $.02 if anyone cares
I don't give a rats ass what happens to napster or any other file sharing mediums for that matter... right now is a big transitional period, and the outcome won't depend on which point-to-point sharing software we can or do use. Even if napster, audiogalaxy, scour (once its up again), gnutella, etc all were shut down, we could still go back to good old FTP and IRC I'm just gonna sit back and watch until we have a plan that makes (most) artists and music listeners happy. Note that making record companies happy isnt that important :P But nonetheless I'm sure their unpleasantness will stick around for some time.
I don't have a problem with paying for music, despite the fact that I haven't paid for 90% of what I have on my hd and on cd In fact, I think my music-buying-karma will be realigned once I get tables and start buying expensive vinyl :P What I do have a problem with is paying $14 to a record company and $1 to an artist when buying a cd. So when napster becomes subscription based, I highly doubt I'll pay, and if I do, only when I KNOW artists are getting at least a 50% or so cut.
BTW check out http://www.everything2.org/index.pl...tnode_id=456282... something called the street performers protocol, good idea IMHO.
