I'd rather ask someone like Umek, Varela, Hype, Slipmatt, Sasha, Zabiela for mixing tips than armin tbh
As for TDV, he taught fergie how to mix, and whenever fergie had to correct a record, tony threw it off and made him start again, great attitude to have |
You may be right, but most people, in the world, will only know Sasha off that list. Varela is sick, but techno has such a minor exposure and most, especially Americans, won't know who he is. Armin is, IMO, the best mixer in the trance genre (out of big djs), and recognizable enough. I understand why they chose him, though there are many more solid mixers/entertainers out there. I heard Zabiela can be very sloppy though, indicating that he may not be the best person to use as a reference point.

I can understand that, but believe me, Armin is on a huge press bandwagon this year to try & win 'number 1'. He thought he'd done enough last year but Tijs did the olympics and beat it all, i'd rather see a guy who can mix as well or learn from someone who can, but is not the big name, as the whole point of a DJ is to see them mix, not to read how to do it or to see them making more public appearances in the quest of a popularity contest etc

I agree completely, but I'd rather have Armin teach than Tijs. Tiesto is a sloppy, uneven, inconsistent dj, versus Armin, who at least mixes pretty solidly. Granted I'd rather have one of the solid prog djs there.

Yeah, I wouldn't ask tijs, he's never mixed like others, but he's had a knack of playing energetic tunes to make up for it.
